Julie Delphy: I was six years old when I saw my first Godard movie, eight when I first experienced Bergman. I wanted to be a director when I was fourteen.
Julie was born to parents Albert Delpy and Marie Pillet on December 21st 1969 in Paris, France.
She made her stage debut at the age of 5, and at 14 she was discovered by director Jean-Luc Godardmotion, and was cast in his 1985 motion picture Detective. Delpy says that as the only child of actors in Paris' avant-garde underground theater, she grew up poor, and though she now makes a good living, she just hasn't acquired a taste for material things. Delphy would save her money for as frequent as possible trips to New York. She finally moved there in 1990 after visiting the city for 5 years. In New York, Delpy did attend the Actors Studio for a time. She has also attended the summer directing program of New York University.
She was cast in main stream productions like The Three Musketeers (1993), but she still prefered to appear in the small, thought-provoking films best appreciated at cinema festivals.
