James Todd Smith, III was born on January 14, 1968 in Westchester County, New York. He's an American Hip-Hop artist better known by his rap name, "LL Cool J" or "Ladies Love Cool James." He also goes by: "LL," "Uncle L," "Mr. Smith," "Future of the Funk" and "Jack the Ripper," all of which are noted from his songs. He is seen as an important figure within hip-hop, and is one of the few hip-hop stars to keep a successful recording career for more than 20 years.
He can be known for his romantic songs such as "I Need Love," "Around The Way Girl" and "Hey Lover", as well as his "tough rhymes" like "I Can't Live Without My Radio," "I'm Bad," "Mama Said Knock You Out" and "Headsprung." He has appeared in numerous films since the mid 80s, such as "Krush Groove" (1985), "The Hard Way" (1991), "Woo" (1998), "Deep Blue Sea" (1999), "Charlie's Angels" (2000), "Kingdom Come" (2001), "S.W.A.T." (2003) and most recent "Last Holiday" (2006). He's also known for his infamous lip-licking which may be seen as flirtatious, is actually a nervous habit he picked up when he was younger.
