Miriam Shor

Biography: Minnesota-born actress Miriam Shor grew up in a highly mobile childhood. After her parents divorced when she was 7 she was shuttled back and forth between homes in Turin, Italy, and Detroit, MI. Upon graduating from Ferndale High School in 1989 and receiving her B.F.A. in drama from the University of Michigan, Shor migrated to the Big Apple and landed a series of weighty stage roles. She drew critical praise for each, most memorably as Yitzhak in Hedwig and the Angry Inch, a role she reprised for the film version in 2001.

Her role as Yitzhak was presented to her on a tiny slip of paper by her agent in 1998. It said, "A man to be played by a woman. Surly, Jewish, Croatian. Ex-drag queen billed as Krystall Nacht, the Last Jewess of the Balkans."
