Paul Eddington started his acting career during World War II with the "Entertainments National Service Association". This organisation was created to entertain British forces during the war. When it was discovered that Paul was a pacifist, on the basis of his Quaker faith, he was asked to leave. He switched to repertory theatre in Sheffield and still worked there when he had his first TV appearance in the 1950. He was a long-time cast member of "The Adventures of Robin Hood" and played various minor parts but he ended up playing Will Scarlett.
He became well-known for this role in "The Good Life", a 1975 British comedy in which he had a supporting role together with Penelope Keith.
In 1980 his fame rose to even greater heights when he starred in the BBC political comedy "Yes Minister". Paul's character, Jim Hacker, was the minister in question who went on to become the Prime Minister.
While performing in "Yes Prime Minister, Paul was diagnosed with T cell lymphoma, a type of skin cancer which ultimately caused his death in November 1995.
He was survived by his actress wife, Patricia Scott and their three sons, Toby, Hugo and Dominic and their only daughter, Gemma.
