Pearl Jam was formed by Stone Gossard, Mike McCready, and Jeff Ament in 1990. They recruited Eddie Vedder, who was given a demo by former Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Jack Irons, on lead vocals and Dave Krusen on drums. They signed with Epic Records. Krusen would quit the band before their debut album was launched, and was replaced by Matt Chamberlain. Chamberlain would leave the band to play for Saturday Night Live, but suggested Dave Abbruzzese. Pearl Jam released their debut album "Ten" in 1991, and went platinum 12 times over the years. It included the hits "Alive", "Even Flow", and "Jeremy". Their second album "Vs." was released in 1993 and sold 950,000 copies in its first week, setting an all time record for copies sold in one week. Their third album would be released in 1994 and sold 877,000 copies in its first week. The band fired Dave Abbruzzese due to artistic differences. They announced his replacement to be Jack Irons. Over the next few years, Pearl Jam's popularity began to decline. They released their fourth album "No Code" on August 27, 1996, exactly five years after "Ten". "Yield", the band's fifth album was released in 1998. Jack Irons quit the band that year due to health problems. They replaced him with Soundgarden's former drummer Matt Cameron, who remains with the band to this day.
On May 20, 2000, they released their sixth album "Binaural". While touring they decided to record each show and let fans make their own videos. They released their seventh album "Riot Act" on November 12, 2002.
In June 2003 Pearl Jam announced they would leave their 12 year label with Epic Records, a Sony imprint. In 2004, Sony released "Rearviewmirror", a compilation of Pearl Jam's greates hits from 1991 to 2003. Pearl Jam would go on to play many concerts all around the world, as well as many benefit concerts. They released their eighth album "Pearl Jam" in 2006 on J Records. Pearl Jam is on tour in Europe during June 2007; as well as headlining Lollapalooza on August 5. They also had their first VH1 Storyteller's, which premiered on July 1, 2006.… Expand
