Pete Burns

Biography: Pete Burns was born, Pete Gezzepe (some spell Jozzeppi) Burns, on August 5th, 1959. He was born in Port Sunlight, England (although some sources say Liverpool). Pete's mother, Eva was part Jewish, and on the run from the Nazis. She married the first Scotsman she met, and had Pete.
Pete as a young child grew up not feeling comfortable with his face. At school he would experiment with his hair and features. However, he was endlessly teased and taunted by teachers and fellow students, that he dropped out at the age of 16.
Pete worked small jobs until he was 18. During this time, he met his wife to be, Lynn, a hairdresser at the time. While Pete was often difficult, and strange, there was something about him that she sensed. In 1979, Pete and Lynn got married. Pete later divorced her in 2006, and started dating a man, Michael Simpson. Soon after Pete and Lynn's marriage, in 1980, when Pete was 21 he formed Dead Or Alive. In 1984, just before he shot the video for "You Spin Me Round", he got his first cosmetic surgery, a nose job. During the waiting period, before he could remove his bandages, he was in so much pain from the nose job that he felt like he was "going to die". When he finally removed the bandages he was unhappy with what he saw. He felt like there was a big part of his face missing. But it was too late to do anything before it was time to shoot the "You Spin Me Round" video. So he came up with a solution that would become a famed look for him; the eye patch. He wore an eyepatch on his left eye to make up for what seemed to be missing.

Pete continued with his plastic surgeries. He began having lip collogan parties, long before their were botox parties. Everything was fine, but in 2003, something went horribly wrong. Pete started getting lumps like "hard peas" in his lips, and one morning, he woke up, and his lips were completely swollen. According to Pete, he touched his face, and there came a loud hissing sound. He was standing about three feet away from his mirror, and when he looked up, puss had squirted all over his mirror. As it turned out, Pete was reacting to the injections in his lips. The "hard peas" he had developed were granulomas, or tiny benign tumors.

Pete went through extensive reconstructive surgeries. During the time he had to move to Italy to receive the best surgeries he could find. Because of his condition, he did not look his best. People on the street would call him, "bruto" or ugly. His boyfriend, Michael would tell him that he was, "more than a scar" during these hardships. After months of procedure after procedure, Pete was finally (mostly) back to normal.

In January of 2006, Pete Burns participated in the British reality show, "Celebrity Big Brother". In this show the celebrities were put into a house, and not exposed to the outside world. Pete was clearly the star of the show, with his acid tongued lines. After the show, Pete claimed that the show was "rigged" and that the contestants were given personas. He said that it was done by "ingenious psychologists" who knew how to get to people.

On February 9th, in an interview with Channel 4's Richard and Judy, Pete announced his engagement to Michael Simpson. But only a day later, an alleged fight broke out between the two, and it is speculated that they have broken up.

During the extent of his career, Pete Burns had recorded numerous songs, and released many albums. He was not only the lead singer or Dead Or Alive, but the man behind it. Dead Or Alive started out as a band that cared little about their image, nor quality of music. They started with their first hit, a remake of the 70's hit, "That's The Way (I Like It)in 1983. Only a year later, they hit the charts with the smash hit "You Spin Me Round". They later recorded the hit "Brand New Lover" in 1986. Both of which were hits in the U.S.

Along with "You Spin Me Round", in 1984, Dead Or Alive also released the hits, "In Too Deep" "Lover Come Back 2 Me", and "My Heart Goes Bang" on their Youthquake album.

In 1986, Dead Or Alive put out their album entitled, "Mad, Bad, and Dangerous To Know". This album featured, "Brand New Lover", "Hooked On Love", and "Something In My House".

Following this was the album, "Nude". This album included the hits, "Turn Around and Count 2 Ten", and "Come Home With Me Baby".

Recently, Dead Or Alive has released a remix of the hit mentioned above, "You Spin Me Round". Pete continues to tour with Dead Or Alive, and continues to record songs.
