Rawiri Paratene

Biography: Born in Hokinga, New Zealand, actor Rawiri Paratene is a Maori. Rawiri went to the Toi Whakaari New Zealand Drama School and graduated with a degree in Acting in 1972. Paratene began his acting career as a children's presenter on the New Zealand show Play School and in a sitcom called Joe and Koro. He is most famous internationally for his starring role in the 2002 film Whale Rider, for which he was nominated for the New Zealand Film and TV Award for best actor. He has also performed scores of other parts in television and film, but he doesn't just act- he also writes for film, television, and writes and directs theater.
