In 1995, Valerie won the prestigious Dramalogue Award for her Marilyn Monroe-like portrayal of "Helen of Troy" in "Trojan Women." She and James Reynolds ("Abe Carver" on "Days") are currently performing the stage production, "Words of Love," in venues throughout the United States.

Valerie also spends a great deal of time in places where most actors wouldn't dream of going - housing projects, homeless shelters, community clinics, juvenile halls, inner city schools, and even doing relief work throughout the world. As a VISTA volunteer in the housing projects of San Antonio, Texas, she worked with gang members and their families in NYPUM (National Youth Project Using Mini-bikes), a program designed by the YMCA and Honda to attract young people to leadership counseling groups. Valerie holds a Master's degree in Counseling, speaks Spanish fluently and worked as a Peace Corps volunteer in the barrios of the Cartagena Mountains in Colombia. At the end of her Peace Corps tenure, she backpacked through Colombia, Ecuador and the Peruvian Andes through "hail, snow, and rainbows." She has counseled young people of diverse backgrounds in various parts of the U.S. and worked abroad as a relief worker through OP USA in Nicaragua, Guatemala, Mexico, Russia, Ethiopia, and the Philippines. Locally, she coordinated an OP USA program, providing financial and medical assistance to numerous clinics throughout Los Angeles serving low-income and homeless families. Through these programs and more, Valerie has come to know countless "unsung heroes and heroines."

Expanding her efforts to uplift the human spirit into the development of film and television projects, Valerie has created WildSpirit Productions, Inc. The very busy actress/producer is also a Spokesperson on Children's Issues for the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. Born in Miami Beach, Florida, Valerie is married and has four stepchildren of various ages. Valerie is currently pursuing Ph.D. in Child and Adolescent Psychology, with an emphasis in the Expressive Arts. In her practically non-existent spare time, Valerie enjoys meditating, yoga and "anything to do with nature."
