Walter Brennan

Biography: Born in 1894, Walter Brennan began performing in vaudeville. He served in World War I with the 101st Field Artillery Regiment. After the War he grew pineapples in Guatemala before returning to the United States. It was his friend Gary Cooper who encouraged him to seek a film career and soon he got bit parts in films like the 1933 The Invisible Man and the 1935 film The Bride of Frankenstein. He did stunt work for many films in the 1930's. In 1936 for the film Come and Get It Walter received the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. He would go on to win two more Best Supporting Actor Oscars. With television on the horizon, Walter entered with the same zest and zeal for his own series called The Real McCoys. The show ran from 1957 until 1963. He would be back the following year in another series titled The Tycoon, this lasted one season only. In 1967 he came back to television for the series The Guns of Will Sonnett. He appeared in various films and television series throughout his remaining years appearing as a regular in the show To Rome With Love the last one he was a permanent cast member of. Expand
