Walter Cronkite

Biography: Walter was born in St. Joseph, Missouri, in November. In his early years, he worked at his college newspaper and eventually landed a job at the Houston Post. He opened an office in Austin in 1927 and worked there for twenty years! He trained broadcast journalism at Midwestern radio stations and often covered European theater for United Press. In 1950, is when Walter joined CBS News, an amazing step toward his career. He covered national political conventions and elections for 29 years while working for CBS News. He then retired in 1981, after those 29 years, and was named "The most trusted man in America." Since then Walter has had mini-host gigs on other television programs.
