F-Zero: Maximum Velocity (GameBoy Advance)

A futuristic racing game inspired by "F-Zero" for the Super NES and "F-Zero X" for the Nintendo 64. A quarter-century after the heroic events of "F-Zero" for the Super NES, the descendents of famous racers like Captain Falcon put their their driving skills to the test in 10 brand new high-speed hovercraft, six of which have to be unlocked by overcoming the gutsy competition. F-Zero Maximum Velocity features hovercraft racing in four different five-track series, plus a bonus track and a track that is only available in Single-Pak multiplayer mode. Jumps, speed boosts and other track features add to the high-speed challenge. [Nintendo]

Critic Reviews

100 GamePro
Blazing fast speeds with sharp graphics, pulsating sounds and good controls.
95 Gaming Maxx
One of the best racing games on a portable ever.
92 Games Radar UK (Pre-2006)
A technical marvel. It moves so fast, and so smoothly, that you'd be forgiven for forgetting that you're playing it on a handheld console.
92 TotalGames.net
As you can probably tell from this review, we at TotalGames.net were just slightly impressed by F-Zero. If you’ve got yourself a GBA, you really have to buy this.
91 Media and Games Online Network
Nintendo's latest version of the F-Zero series for the GBA preserves the "Wow" factor that made F-Zero one of Nintendo's biggest game franchises.
90 IGN
The element that really makes F-Zero Maximum Velocity shine is its four player option.
87 Gamer's Pulse
It’s extremely fast, it’s even more intense, and it has replay value to boot. What more could you ask for in an arcade racer?
86 GameSpy
A great, if overly hard revamp, of the classic SNES racer.
85 Nintendophiles
The game can get rather frustrating because of the control scheme, but once you have them mastered it can be quite fun.
85 GamerWeb Nintendo
Provides an outstanding experience, and one I never thought possible on a handheld.
81 GameSpot
While it isn't be most visually astonishing Game Boy Advance launch game, Maximum Velocity's visuals improves upon the SNES version in almost every respect.
80 Electric Playground
Speed vs. control is what F-Zero is all about. It's not an easy ride, but it's a fun one.
80 Hot Games
Merely a good game that feels a bit old hat.
80 GMR Magazine
An enhanced port of the classic SNES racer with improved graphics and support for 4 players. [Feb 2003, p.97]
80 Ferrago
Represents a very purified experience, which is better suited for the occasional quick thrill, than hours of immersive play.
80 Game Over Online
If you are one who knows what the term 'powerslide' means in racers, you'll undoubtedly want to pick this one up.
78 My Gamer
While some people may get frustrated on the higher difficulties, they add a great dimension to the game and separate the casual racers from the true F-Zero fans.
75 Armchair Empire
Simple gameplay that can stay entertaining for a long period of time. You can't really ask for much more from it.
70 Yahoo! Games
Graphically, the Game Boy Advance comfortably does the game justice.
