Ice Climber (Classic NES Series) (GameBoy Advance)

Like, duh. You climb the ice and whack monsters. Bring the ice hammer down -- again. Popo and Nana's mountain-climbing epic. (Years later, this parka-clad pair gained fame anew in "Super Smash Bros. Melee.") Ice Climber is part of the NES Classic Series, or "Famicom Mini Series", of specially priced classic games! [Nintendo]

Critic Reviews

90 Thunderbolt
Ice Climber may be a 20 year old NES game, but it's still a great purchase on the GBA due to its unique multiplayer appeal and classic Nintendo attention to gameplay.
75 Cinescape
This is one of those games not a lot of people have played, so now is a great time to pick it up.
73 GameZone
It's easy to play, but hard to get a real grip of. The character can sure jump high, but he can't jump long, timing is critical in landing some of those jumps.
70 IGN
A great game that holds its own 20 years later, and although it was given away in "Animal Crossing" and printed on inexpensive playing cards in e-Reader format, the addition of two player support and cartridge high score save is enough to recommend it.
70 GamePro
If it sounds repetitive, it is, but Nintendo finds a way to make a lot of sinister challenges out of the sparse building blocks. [Sept 2004, p.93]
70 Nintendojo
If the controls were just a little tighter, it'd be a solid recommendation even for people with no particular interest in the NES Classic series.
70 Pocket Games
Then you remember that the control is mediocre and the game gets old after about 10 minutes. [Summer 2004, p.14]
65 GameCube Advanced
This is a very tough game, its premise may seem simple, but busting ice blocks, avoiding enemies, and jumping on platforms gets very tricky as you progress through the more than thirty mountains.
62 GameSpot
If you're a diehard fan of Ice Climber, this game is worth picking up. However, if you aren't a hardcore nostalgia buff, the $20 price tag is a pretty steep price to pay for a game this simple.
52 Nintendo Power
A slight lag in the controls makes many of the difficult jumps frustrating, but the result is that much sweeter when you reach the top. [July 2004, p.121]
50 1UP
Unless you're one of those unfortunate kids who ended up with Ice Climber as your only NES game and therefore have had a nostalgic fondness for it inflicted upon you against your will, you'll probably want to pass it by.
50 Gaming Age
The game's controls are somewhat sluggish and leave much to be desired.
40 Cheat Code Central
I'm not so sure that Ice Climber falls into the "classic" category. It would make a decent mini game but in this context it's like having candyfloss for supper.
33 Play Magazine
The only bright spot is the co-op play. [Aug 2004, p.61]
