Atari Anthology (Playstation 2)

Critic Reviews

90 GameShark
The first console software package to offer these games since they originally appeared on the 2600, so in a way it represents history itself. The arcade games also offer some of the best play experiences from the days when arcades were king. It's a great package that should be in any serious gamer's collection.
85 Game Informer
I'm really pleased to see the inclusion of a good selection of original arcade ports as well. [Jan 2005, p.119]
80 PSM Magazine
The emulation is dead-on too, so everything plays perfectly. [Feb 2005, p.82]
80 AceGamez
Those who remember the days of the rollerball and paddle controller and have a deep yearning to return could happily fork out ten to twenty quid for this, but anyone with less than a burning desire to revisit their youth may not feel that their reddies went in the right direction.
77 IC-Games
Nostalgia is simply oozing out of the box and with the information sheets and pamphlets included on each game the retro gamer should be in heaven.
70 Sydney Morning Herald
But if you know the difference between a Mame emulator and a Lame encoder, this could be right up your eight-colour alley.
60 Thunderbolt
And that's the problem with Atari Anthology - it just gets boring really quickly, which is no surprise considering how old the games are.
60 IGN
Activision Anthology, with its 80s bedroom and stacks of selectable cartridges, got it right, and it's more than just a little disappointing to see Atari lift Activision's namesake but not the fantastic retro presentation it created for its own collection.
60 PSX Nation
The low price (under $20) and handful of AAA classics still manage to make this an appealing purchase proposition IF you can tolerate its noticeable shortcomings and/or have an appreciation for the industry's history.
60 GMR Magazine
Unless you've got serious Atari nostalgia, most of these won't keep you occupied for more than five minutes. [Feb 2005, p.103]
50 Boomtown
After playing these games for what feels like an unholy amount of time (even just in the past week) I have to wonder what it is with all of the retro feel that games companies are instigating merely to show off their back catalogue.
40 Official U.S. Playstation Magazine
Most of the Atari 2600's great titles had little to do with Atari.[Feb 2005, p.91]
