CART Fury Championship Racing (Playstation 2)

In the tradition of "NBA Jam" and "NFL Blitz," Midway brings its over-the-top arcade style to the CART circuit in one of their most anticipated titles. The game is FAST and chock full 'o collisions, pile-ups, and power boosts.

Critic Reviews

80 Hot Games
Lots of options, plenty of races, and some challenge puts this racer in a league of its own – it’s actually better than some of the official NASCAR racers available now.
80 GameZone
It may not be as sleek as some of the other racing games on the market, but is has certainly carved out its own place of individuality among the others, which is not an easy task as all gamers know.
70 GamePro
That immersive, macho feeling makes the otherwise just-okay CART Fury worth at least a rent.
65 Happy Puppy
If you are looking for all-out arcade excitement that has made Midway notorious, you will definitely find it in CART Fury. Unfortunately, the novelty of this high-octane action burns out rather quickly.
62 Electronic Gaming Monthly
The quick races, which play a lot like a lamer, more grounded version of Hydro Thunder, only draw attention to the ghastly load times. [Aug 2001, p. 109]
60 All Game Guide
This game has more than enough depth with its mini-games and driving modes, but what is most fun is the wanton nature of its car crashes.
60 PSX Nation
Long on fun and short on replay, Midway's CART Fury is good light hearted racing that brings something new to the world of CART.
57 GameSpot
A solid PlayStation 2 cart-racing game. However, its unrealistic artificial intelligence, mismatched music, and lengthy loading times add up to an uninspiring experience that only results in frustration.
55 GameSpy
While initially exciting, the thrill of the speed will wear off within the first hour or so, leaving you with a poor arcade racer that's neither exciting enough to last beyond the initial play nor realistic enough to provide the depth of a real racer.
55 IGN
It's fast, it's got some neat pileups, but it's shallow, repetitive, skill-less, and has screwy AI. I would not buy this game unless I was desperate for any kind of racing game, and I mean desperate. And I'm a sad online reporter and all, but I'm not desperate for crappy games.
42 Game Revolution
I really like the extreme concept behind CART Fury and its mini games are neat. But in a fast paced game like this on a next-generation system, the oh so slow going menus and loading time brings this race to a screeching halt.
30 GamerWeb Sony
A big mess from top to bottom. The graphics are fine, but everything else needed a gigantic overhaul worse than a Chevy Corvair.
0 Gaming Age
The Driving physics are completely unrefined and lack the tight control that is needed to play the game. That tied with the enemy car AI that is completely useless and doesn’t provide an adequate challenge even on any level, the gameplay sinks faster than the titanic.
