Hyper Street Fighter II: The Anniversary Edition (Playstation 2)

(Currently available in Japan only) Capcom celebrates the 15th anniversary of Street Fighter's console debut with the release of this compliation disk for fans. The game lets Street Fighter fans mix and match World Warriors from all the various SF games. Capcom has also tweaked the gameplay a little for some of the characters. You won't find Guile's infamous bug, for instance. Also, some of the skills and air combos in Super Street Fighter II X have been tweaked.

This marvellous compilation will bring back wondrous memories of your youth and warm your heart to the very core. It's complete, enjoyable and perfect in every way.
89 Games Radar UK (Pre-2006)
If you've any belief in the competitive emotional-purity of gaming, then this classic beat-'em-up surely belongs in your collection. [PSM2]

It's this seemingly low care factor that hurts Hyper Street Fighter 2 the most, not the core gameplay which is excellent. For a 15th anniversary celebration release, I found the entire package to be surprisingly lacking in credibility.
80 Total Video Games
If you’re a Streetfighter fan then you really should have this in your collection, however younger gamers may find themselves staring blankly and wandering what all the fuss is about.
80 Edge Magazine
Playing "Street Fighter II" - any version of "Street Fighter II" - on a PlayStation2 DualShock controller just isn't quite right, as its D-pad doesn't rock in the way the old SNES joypad's would. It's bearable, but to get the most out of this celebratory package you'll want to be using an arcade stick. [Mar 2004, p.111]
80 Boomtown
It’s obvious that while it has visually aged, the gameplay is still as rock solid as ever and is sure to last you through a good number of battles against your friends.

Not only is it guaranteed to rekindle your fighting spirit but hopefully it'll convince Capcom to hurry up and release "Street Fighter 4."

Besides the dated gameplay is dated graphics and presentation. While the graphics of Hyper Street Fighter 2 look clearer than any console version of Street Fighter 2 ever, they're still 16 bit graphics.
70 Gamer's Hell
The product is as good as the component parts however the game falls spectacularly short of competing with the likes of "Capcom vs. SNK 2," "Marvel vs. Capcom" et al.
70 games(TM)
The single-player game is a series of fights against Super X opponents without a plot to give the fights meaning, or even bonus rounds to break up the pace...something to which Capcom should have paid more attention. [May 2004, p.117]
70 NTSC-uk
Allows a retrospective look back on the series and you realise that, despite all the advances made since in the fighting genre, much of it stemmed from this game and that it is still highly playable, competitive, deep and rewarding.
60 Gamestyle
In terms of the gaming market now, the action while still playing like a dream feel basic. Looking at it from the point of view of a fan however, apart from the issue with the editing in the movie you could not really ask for anything more than what is present.
50 RewiredMind
Time has not been kind to Street Fighter II, and this is mainly due to Capcom’s constant revelations in its genre, with "Capcom vs SNK 2" coming to mind as a faster, prettier and generally more thrilling and interesting title.
