Most races are against opponents so well matched to your abilities that youll always be vying for position. Its rare that a game incites such a competitive blood lust and thats what makes Initial D such a worthwhile import.

A fantastic driving game that actually brings something fresh to the genre. It succeeds because it not only provides an arcade adrenalin buzz, but also encourages experimentation and improvement until the potential of the car and player have been fully realised. [JPN Import]

Everything arcade fans could ask for. Not only do you have the entire arcade port with better force feedback, but you also have a Story Mode which is almost like playing the anime movie. The problem is that the excitement of head to head racing against another human of the arcade is absent, and despite being great fun initially, I do not find the driving physics balanced enough.

A solidly fun arcade style racing game that actually honors the source material involved and doesn't make it look like a shameless cash grab.

Granted, it holds a certain charm and there's definite enjoyment to be had but then that easily applies to most racing games these days. Initial D is simply not distinguished enough on its own merits to convincingly stand out from the swarming racing scene. [Sept 2003]
