Aeon Flux (Xbox)

Aeon Flux is based on Peter Chung's popular futuristic MTV animated series and features a palpitating blend of stealth, speed and acrobatic combat. As beautiful as she is lethal, Aeon Flux is an agent whose abilities transcend everyday belief; she will depend upon those skills and talents to rid the city of Bregna from an evil tyranny. Paramount Pictures'/Lakeshore Entertainment's Aeon Flux is set 400 years in the future, when disease has wiped out the majority of the earth's population except for one walled, protected city-state, Bregna, ruled by a congress of scientists. The story centers on Aeon Flux (Charlize Theron), the top operative in the underground 'Monican' rebellion, led by The Handler (Frances McDormand). When Aeon is sent on a mission to kill a government leader, she uncovers a world of secrets. [Majesco]

Critic Reviews

84 BonusStage
A very cool game indeed. Stacked up against other movie-based games, it can hold its own with the best of them an it actually makes me more interested in the upcoming film (free ticket or not).
80 Stuff
Fact is, it's good. If you dig the Aeon franchise, Charlize's long, lithe getaway sticks, or third-person action games, check it out.
80 XboxAddict
The detail in the setting is great. This goes for the architecture as well as the outside environments and the organic lifeforms.
80 GameCritics
Although the animation and framerate aren't as optimized as they could be (one of the qualities common to Terminal Reality's other titles) and some of the combat sequences can occasionally be frustrating, looking past Charlize Theron's digitized face reveals Aeon Flux to be finely in tune with its animated soul—and a darker, more artistically challenging thrill ride than players are usually privy to.
78 IGN
It’s an interesting set up that's attempted, but in its execution it feels far too detached and fragmented to provide a satisfying narrative experience. Buy this game if you like well designed jumping puzzles mixed in with some decent combat sequences.
78 Team Xbox
The close-quarters fighting system is by no means deep, but the inclusion of the style system and the takedown attacks makes for some interesting hand-to-hand scenarios. The acrobatic moves don’t hurt either.
74 The New York Times
Combat is somewhat repetitive, though, and the game is more fun when she is jumping across chasms or rolling through tunnels.
74 Talk Xbox
A good romp, easily a step above the usual licensed junk that saturates the market around the holiday season. There just really isn’t anything bad or good about Aeon Flux; it’s a slightly above average game that doesn’t really bring anything new to the table.
73 Game Informer
Manages to transcend its problems with clever platforming and some interesting level designs. [Jan 2006, p.138]
72 GameSpot
Heavy on style and light on coherency, but there's enough enjoyable action to keep things from flying apart at the seams.
72 Next Level Gaming
It suffers because of its story. All of the twists and turns and never knowing what is really going on detracts from all of the cool moves and action the game provides.
70 Official Xbox Magazine UK
The combat isn't as good as it should be, which sadly lets down what is otherwise a solid acrobatic platformer with cunning puzzles, set in a dazzling futuristic world.
70 GamePro
While the game's aesthetics and design is spot on to the franchises distinct style, gameplay teeters between fluidly fast-pace action and insanely difficult and tedious game segments.
70 Play Magazine
In a world where death is as temporary as heartburn, nothing is out of bounds. [Dec 2005, p.62]
70 Cheat Code Central
A somwhat confusing game that doesn't live up to the inspired madness of the animated series; it does however manage to be a whole lot better than some of the games featuring female heroes.
70 Official Xbox Magazine
Amazing speed, fluid graphics. [Feb 2006, p.81]
70 DarkStation
The game might have inherited the movie's convoluted mess, but it is a somewhat decent adventure title, albeit marred by a frustrating control.
69 Gamers' Temple
Just like the plot of Aeon Flux, the game is sometimes brilliant, sometimes frustrating, and overall a bit on the confusing side of things.
63 Armchair Empire
It is neither particularly offensive nor particularly engrossing, but for a licensed property, one could certainly do far worse.
60 Games Radar
Redundant or not, it’s also worth pointing out that the whole game only takes ten hours - tops - to finish, and honestly, that’s just long enough before the tedium begins to set in.
60 Worth Playing
This release, however, is a merely average Prince of Persia clone with a bad movie sewn onto it. It may be worth investigation if you need your next wall-running fix, but don't come with high expectations.
60 GamerFeed
The gameplay remains addictively fun thanks to a few cool techniques and the use of metallic balls, and the design isn't half bad. However, the game could've used just a little more work to keep up with the bigger female guns out there.
58 Into Liquid Sky
The action is fun, if a bit monotonous when it comes to combat and linear throughout.
58 My Gamer
It’s a disgrace to see such prime material squandered over such a mediocre game. While it’s not horrible, it could have been much cooler.
50 Jolt Online Gaming UK
This is a game that has been made to promote the film, no doubt in tandem with cereal box promotions and official merchandise coming to a supermarket near you. It’s just a shame, for both their sake and ours, that it simply isn’t very good.
50 PALGN
Aeon Flux is your standard movie to game adaptation. It's not terrible, it's just extremely average.
40 EuroGamer
When Aeon Flux isn’t busy being average, it’s tied up in its own gibberish, or nudging you towards your next confrontation with awkward controls. It has almost none of the excitement we play video games for and as such, is time lost and tears in the eyes of anyone foolish enough to waste their money.
