Black Stone: Magic & Steel (Xbox)

A thousand years after their defeat at Zedan, the dark mages hiding within the Tower of Babylon have grown very powerful. They awaken the ancient volcano, Moon-eye, which weakened the powers of Holy Light, that is protecting the land of Zedan. Without the protection of the Holy Light, the dark mages were able to steal the people souls of Zedan and turn them all into slaves. The dark one, Xylon, possesses many pieces of the Black Stone and now has enough power to fulfill his destiny. The story begins on this evil night. [Xicat Interactive]

Critic Reviews

72 GameZone
An arcade RPG clone of "Gauntlet Dark Legacy."
60 Play Magazine
BS is no gem, mind you, but it is strangely addicting, as these games tend to be when the mood strikes. [June 2003, p.57]
60 Cheat Code Central
Only two kinds of gamers would appreciate this title: beginners and those looking for an easy hack-and-slash party game.
56 Official Xbox Magazine
It's the same as "Gauntlet: Dark Legacy." And by "the same," we mean "virtually identical." [Jan 2003, p.92]
52 IGN
It's definitely more fun with your friends, but in the same way that eating broccoli with a saltine is better than eating the green alone.
50 TeamXbox
Playing this game alone borders on punishment, so I stress the point that if you are a loser and do not have any friends; please steer clear of Blackstone and all its unholiness.
50 TotalGames.net
Yes there is some fun to be had but you’ll get bored long before you unlock all the characters or see the final 26th level.
40 G4 TV
A good-looking but brain-dead, thumb-numbing game.
30 Game Informer
Unlike "Gauntlet," Black Stone is so poorly executed, that it is absolutely no fun to play. [Feb 2003, p.104]
30 Gamer's Pulse
It baffles me how a game like this could be made. I cannot fathom why, during the development process, someone did not just say, “Enough is enough,” and scrap the project entirely.
30 Xbox Nation Magazine
Seems to have sprung up from the sharp minds of bored high school students who probably spent too much time playing "Gauntlet." [Winter 2002, p.109]
21 GameSpot
Like a botched cloning experiment from a B movie, with developer Xpec Entertainment playing the mad scientist's role and Gauntlet playing the test subject. The beast that's emerged from the cloning chamber is just what you'd expect: a shambling, ugly, and dumb version of the source material.
