Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 2 (Xbox)

The latest incarnation of Mirra features 10 levels (two more than the PS2 version - the Greenville, N.C., and Venice levels are exclusive to Xbox and GameCube) in vert, dirt, street, and park riding, with ten multiplayer games and a roster of pros including the usual suspects: Ryan, Rick, and Dave himself.

Critic Reviews

95 Xbox Exclusive
With a brand new trick system in place that allows you to perform over 1500 different tricks, as well as several large and expansive levels that will test your trick abilities, Dave Mirra sits on the top of the pile, holding the extreme sports title.
90 Hot Games
The perfect version of this game, and the one that will be remembered as the best of the bunch.
90 Game Informer
I'd rather be holding the Dual Shock 2 than the hamburger-like Xbox controller, but this version's lack of pop-up evens things out. [Dec 2001, p.109]
87 Official Xbox Magazine
A good trick structure and decent playability. [Jan 2002]
85 TotalGames.net
Visually the game is now crisp like snow as far as the eye can see.
80 Next Generation Magazine
Add an incredibly robust level editor, great multiplayer options, and the ability to rip your own tunes to Xbox’s hard drive, and you have a pretty damned cool game. [Jan 2002, p.32]
80 GameShark
The main control issue for the game is landing. Unlike the skateboarding games, which allow a little bit of error, there's no room for it in Dave Mirra.
79 GameSpy
It's a solid, trick based BMX game. Good control, mixed with decent graphics, and a wide variety of truly huge and impressive courses should satisfy any player in search of an extreme sporting fix.
76 Media and Games Online Network
The game is far from perfect, suffering from a shaky graphics engine and a trick system that requires some tweaking, but the game manages to be pretty damn fun despite all that.
75 GamerWeb Xbox
The trick system is easy but limited, a flaw that should not have happened. All in all this game is a good buy.
75 Game Revolution
Very deep for an Xtreme game. The level sizes, moves list, and challenges are extremely expansive.
74 GameSpot
Questionable physics and a sloppy trick system still hinder the game from reaching its true potential.
70 Gamezilla!
With its strong point on quantity, Dave Mirra’s Freestyle BMX 2 fails on the quality of rider control and in distinct graphics.
69 IGN
Extreme games are mostly about control, and in that respect Mirra 2 feels unpolished and messy at all the wrong times.
62 TeamXbox
Plagued by many flaws in the control system and in collision detection.
60 Total Video Games
Despite having good structure, control, sound and graphics as well as a kickass level editor the game is just not as much fun as it could be because of the problems with control.
56 Gamer's Pulse
The game is very pretty, and features some huge, fun levels, but it just wasn't enough to keep me playing.
50 Xbox Nation Magazine
This is no Tony Hawk. [Jan 2002, p.96]
