Critic Reviews

100 Times Online
A completely engrossing game, designed for the patience of adult players, that will stand up to an almost infinite number of sessions. It’s a technically marvellous achievement by David Cage.
100 Gaming Age
Indigo Prophecy is unique, artistic, immersive and beautiful. There’s no reason in the world why any self-respecting gamer shouldn’t have this game in their collection.
95 Talk Xbox
The characters are memorable and the storyline is great, even if it gets a bit “out there” towards the end. It’s games like this that deserve to be called art, instead of just “games”. If you buy one more Xbox game this year or ever, make it Indigo Prophecy.
93 IC-Games
Fahrenheit features a fascinating, ever evolving storyline that really does change in real time depending on your actions.
92 Gamer 2.0
Indigo Prophecy may not have the technical backings of a winner with its dated graphics and strange control scheme, but everything else screams classic.
92 Worth Playing
The most enjoyable gaming experience I've had this year. The story was one of the best ever, and the acting is top-notch.
91 Gamers' Temple
Indigo Prophecy may very well be the best adventure game for the Xbox...not much more needs to be said than that.
91 netjak
A wonderful title and well worth a purchase. While the visuals leave much to be desired, the rest of the game is well packaged. This is adventure gaming at its finest and includes a wonderful control scheme innovation that should be used for future games.
90 DarkStation
As adventure games are becoming a rarity these days, out comes Quantic Dream's effort that totally hooks you in with its spellbinding story.
90 Pelit (Finland)
The game itself is quite simple and short, but the story folds out in a great way. One of the best games of 2005 so far. [Sept. 05]
90 BonusStage
The game starts out kind of like "The Twilight Zone" meets "CSI," but then it turns into The "X-Files" with some "Matrix" undertones.
90 Jolt Online Gaming UK
A truly extraordinary game, and easily one of this year’s landmark titles. Evocative, unique, original, atmospheric and gripping – most contemporary releases struggle to lay claim to just one of Fahrenheit’s strengths.
90 GameBiz
Complicated characters with rich personalities, a thoroughly complex and enjoyable story-line, massively entertaining interactive action sequences, intriguing mysteries, stylish sex, beautiful scenes, and a lack of flaws make Fahrenheit one of the best games this year.
90 eToychest
The game is fantastic – absolutely the best graphic adventure title of the year – and is a game others should aspire to in many ways.
90 GameCritics
I don't think it's an overstatement to say that Quantic Dream's work is an achievement for dramatic storytelling and a bold step forward towards maturation of the medium. Games like this are what I live for as a player and as a critic.
90 Total Video Games
Those who won’t look at a game unless it’s got big guns and lots of mindless goons to destroy will likely detest Fahrenheit and wonder what the fuss is all about; however those who’d like to glimpse how videogames can become an effective means to telling stories and interacting with them will find one of the surprising contenders for Game of the Year.
90 EuroGamer
Probably the most enjoyable, forward-looking and thoughtful piece of videogaming we've played in this or in any year. We never thought we'd say this, but it's a real step forward for the adventure game genre.
90 TotalGames.net
Easily a contender for game of the year and, potentially, the last great piece of original gaming left for current-gen Xbox owners to discover.
90 Pelaaja (Finland)
Fahrenheit heralds the renaissance in adventure games. The puzzles are logical and use common sense. The cinematic feeling, excellent voice acting, gripping action sequences and excellent audiovisual elements complement the tightly woven plot. The story and scene’s change according to the players choices and actions, which has often been talked about, but rarely implemented as well as in Fahrenheit. The game proves that adventure games are not dead, they just needed to find a way to adjust. [Sept 2005, p.52]
90 Computer and Video Games
Unlike anything else you'll ever play on Xbox, and we're pretty confident you'll also consider it one of the best. It's like reading the latest Dan Brown blockbuster, only with fewer words and more joypad abuse. Quite simply, it's ace. [Official UK Xbox Magazine]
90 AceGamez
One of the most fresh, exiting and original games to come out for a long time; it's well presented, sounds great and offers something completely new. There are even a few sex scenes!
89 Team Xbox
The story is fantastic and the way in which several characters interact and overlap in order to create a larger picture of what’s happening is very well put together. The fact that players get to take part in each character’s progression through the story is icing on the already great tasting cake.
89 Official Xbox Magazine
Don't expect Indigo to placate cheap-thrill seekers, but if you're looking for a satisfyingly good yarn, this is much too clever and unique to pass up. [Nov 2005, p.116]
88 Gamer's Hell
The sense of victory is strange and unfamiliar. Instead of rejoicing after a hard boss battle or an intense endurance contest, you’ll find yourself wondering what will happen to the characters afterward, and what it all means.
87 Electronic Gaming Monthly
The adventure genre (hell, the industry in general) should take notes. If your mind's open, let this one in.
87 VGPub
I cannot stress enough how engrossing the story is.
87 GameZone
It not only possesses all the things we love about the adventure genre but it redefines it to the point that its interactive storytelling really does gives us hope that there are gamers that appreciate substance in their games.
86 Next Level Gaming
Solid graphics with a consistent feel, one of the best story presentations I have seen in a game since the original Half-Life, mixed all together with a variety of puzzles and changing environments combine to make a knockout of a title.
85 PALGN
One of the most unique adventure games in years. Gripping stuff from start to finish.
85 Stuff
And yet there's still something here that kept us playing to the end. Can't quite put our finger on it…ah yes, now we remember what it was: This game has a story that's almost too damn good for a video game.
85 MS Xbox World
This psychological thriller will keep players hooked from start to finish as it has that “I must find out what happens next” feel to it.
84 Kombo
No matter what you may think of adventure games, Indigo Prophecy is a stellar example of what a great game plays like. It’s accessible to anyone who can hold a controller, and will have you hooked from beginning to end.
84 GameSpot
But where Indigo Prophecy truly shines is in its story, which is a deep, captivating, and sometimes disturbing tale of one average man's journey to solve a murder that he himself committed.
84 IGN
The game’s sound, story, and characters are so strong, and the variety of situations players will find themselves in is so large, that at no point is this a boring play experience.
83 Game Informer
If you enjoy a good story and don't mind a more laid-back approach to gameplay, this is a title you simply cannot ignore. [Oct 2005, p.124]
83 Xbox World Australia
The graphics are a little basic and the controls can be a pain, but the enjoyable story and movie-like action sequences will suck you into the world of Fahrenheit, and if you look past the few minor shortcomings, you’ll be treated to one of the finest adventure games on the console.
81 XGP Gaming
I almost guarantee that if more games paid this much attention to narrative, the comparison of the gaming industry to the movie industry would become more valid than ever before.
80 Da Gameboyz
Despite some technical shortcomings the game has a strong and involving storyline.
80 GamePro
While Indigo Prophecy is an intense gaming experience, it's easier to compare the title to a film affair. If you can get past the minimalist game interface Prophecy can be an awesome entertaining play.
80 GameSpy
Ugly graphics aside, this is one of the most unique games I've played all year. The controls are different and the story is fantastic. I highly recommend this game if you're look for a new experience.
80 Adventure Gamers
Though the inclusion of repetitive mini-games is anything but evolutionary, this game is well worth a look for those who can handle some reflex action in their adventures.
80 1UP
If it was a book you'd call it "a real page-turner"; it can be nigh-impossible at points to put down. When all is said and done, as the credits roll across the screen, you'll remember the poignant moments as part of the story, not the actions you took that caused them to be played out.
80 Edge Magazine
It’s almost shocking how seamless, engrossing and accessible Fahrenheit is. It’s sad, then, that it shows weakness in the one area where it needed to be stronger than any other game: the script. [Oct 2005, p.84]
80 G4 TV
It does drag on in a few spots, and its sci-fi bent may betray the original premise, but it brings gamers a deep, compelling story told in a clever way -- both in terms of narrative and gameplay execution.
78 Xbox Evolved
An experience like no other, with interesting quirks that will get you interested no matter who you are.
75 Xbox Solution
The really interesting part of the story is the direct impact that your actions have on it. The choices you make during the game could make a substantial difference in the overall story.
70 Gamestyle
All in all, Fahrenheit tries hard to be that truly interactive story game we've always wanted, but at some point collapses under its own weight, proving that we're not at that stage just yet.
70 Cheat Code Central
Anyone should be able this game in about 10 hours or so. Other than that, this game is perfect.
70 The New York Times
But just keeping the player's attention is not enough to make a great game, and the tragedy of Indigo is that it so wants to be one.
60 Sydney Morning Herald
It's about halfway through Fahrenheit that the wheels start to wobble. The game begins to veer away from its complex murder-mystery beginnings into the realm of pure fantasy, with a final chapter that can be hard to stomach.
33 Game Revolution
There are certainly some good ideas here, but its attempts at cinematic effect undermine themselves through sheer repetition, while the story goes from creepy cool to Fox Kids' Club silly faster than you can say "WTF."
