Greg Hastings' Tournament Paintball (Xbox)

This groundbreaking single and multiplayer game combines the strategy and teamwork of a sports title with the fast-paced intensity of a first-person action game. The single player game introduces gamers to the world of Paintball as they would be introduced to the sport in real life, starting out as a rookie on recreational fields with basic skills and equipment. As the player progresses he will discover a realistic, robust Paintball simulation at every level. As top equipment is paramount in the real paintball world, new upgrades can be purchased from a selection of over 100 licensed products using the winnings earned from tournament play. By the time the player advances to Pro, he can purchase all of the most cutting edge gear available to the real-life professional player. Players can move from rookie all the way to pro before heading to play against real players in multiplayer mode; or they can try their hand at jumping right into multiplayer mode. The multiplayer game offers both system link and Xbox Live play. With 20 unique locations, 179 different field layouts, and hundreds of possible game configurations, there's plenty of replayability. Exercise full control over your online game experience through detailed OptiMatch game preferences. Communicate with your teammates using Xbox Live voicechat to coordinate strategy and identify opponent positions on the fly. With up to 14 players, experience the true ferocity of 7-on-7 tournament play. [Activision]

Critic Reviews

80 Cheat Code Central
It's non-violent fun for the entire family. But it's challenging enough to frustrate even the most ardent of hardcore shooting fans, especially in the online tournament modes where you can compete with some of the best in the world.
80 Maxim Online
Choose from over 179 field layouts across 19 tournaments to test out the game's hair-trigger controls in surprisingly fun online seven-on-seven team showdowns.
80 TeamXbox
Even though the game may get a bit repetitive in time, the fantastic controls and overall solid programming are worth a look.
80 GameZone
An entertaining and addictive first-person shooter sans the blood and violence seen in most FPS games. This is a highly competitive sport and the game does a brilliant job of representing it throughout the single and multiplayer matches.
79 Game Chronicles
The game is also a bit light in the single-player aspect, so if you don’t have Xbox Live or don’t like to play games online then you might want to steer clear of Tournament Paintball. But if you are looking for a new spin on the FPS genre rooted in a realistic and increasingly popular sport, you might just want to check this game out.
78 IGN
A unique brand of first-person shooter and sports game. It's more enjoyable, in some ways, than other online sports titles, with solid controls and addictive gameplay.
74 GameSpot
Manages to combine the extreme sports and shooter genres with surprisingly good results.
72 Xbox World Australia
The “one hit” action of the game is a great take on shooter titles as it makes you more cautious about what you are doing, but it can also cause some frustrating moments.
70 Xbox Nation Magazine
Paintball makes up for its lackluster graphics and sound by delivering an exciting tactical shooting experience. [Feb 2005, p.89]
60 GamerFeed
Its Xbox Live options are plentiful, and its presentation, while a bit basic on some ends, still manages to get the job done. It accurately portrays the sport of paintball except for the mess and pain.

My excitement was diminished after a good 20 minutes or so, and the tactics I was looking to learn from this title did not transpire when playing Halo 2. And in the end, my comrades over on Xbox Live were still there to ridicule me of my purchase, so I am here to inform you not to make the same mistake I have. Stay away.
