Even with it's failings, Plight of the Zombie is a great path-drawing puzzle game. The various zombie and enemy types, as well as the unique challenges they provide, make it feel unexpectedly fresh despite all the decay.

The best games on the App Store completely rebuild their genres to work with touch controls. In that regard Golden Ninja HD is an absolute platforming success. While lacking a little ambition, this free sample makes a strong first impression.

Can Free-to-Play work well for episodic gaming? Let's just say that this is a perfect example of episodic done VERY right.

Whether or not someone enjoys Asteroid 2012 3D depends on how fond the are of the 1979 arcade original and how much fun they have with totally mindless action. I'd never attempt to call it a "deep" experience, but sometimes I don't want deep. Sometimes I just want to blow crap up. And I can think of worse outlets than this.

Crude, rude, and sometimes just downright distasteful, The Lost Reels brilliantly toes the line of acceptability, while still delivering solid on-rails shooter action.

If you're a Creeps! fan looking for more tower-defense goodness, the Holiday Edition is a no-brainer purchase. If you've yet to buy the first one, you may want to check it out, as it has more levels. Still, The Creeps! Holiday Edition is a great continuation of an excellent tower defense game, full of challenge, humor, and engaging fun.

When judged on its own merits, Save Yammi is a creative puzzler with cute graphics, reliable physics and charm. It offers something a little different into the iOS puzzle game world, which is welcome, especially for those of us who have been cutting ropes for a long time and want a fresh challenge in a friendly and familiar form.

Space Food Truck is a great digital board game with a deeply flawed multiplayer mode. If you were looking for this to be your next multiplayer game, I wouldn't recommend Space Food Truck, but if you want a good and charming deck-building game, it's worth picking up.

For the physics based puzzle fan, Little Lost Chick is an ideal purchase. The adorable visuals will keep many happy but just because it looks innocent doesn't mean that it's a pushover. Underneath the surface is enough challenge to ensure that players will keep returning to Little Lost Chick until they reach the conclusion.

A refreshing puzzler. I wasn't sure if I would like it at first, but I enjoyed the game the more I played it due to the increasingly difficult puzzles. The impressive graphics combined with the logical gameplay make this indie title perfect for gamers of all ages and types.

A great racing game, damaged by a business model more fitting of a free-to-play game than a $4.99 one.

It’s remarkably different from the direction the rest of the App Store has taken, and it’s worthy for the way it and its creator have stood tall in making it. But beyond that the game is perfect for pick up and play, and has plenty of satisfying fast-paced action and insanity to be definitely worth checking out.

Even with the touchy touching, it's still hard not to have fun with Zombie: The Rescue. The slightly too-loose controls can be adjusted for after a little experimentation and there are plenty of levels (60) to keep players occupied. Especially if they compulsively go after the maximum score for each. Plus it's a zombie game that doesn't immediately focus on firearms. That has to count for something.

In the end, Rock(s) Rider isn't a failure; it just comes up a little short. With a little patience players can learn to work around the controls (for the most part), but a little tweaking would make a much-needed difference.

The beauty of the 2D RTS is that it manages to make the genre simpler and more approachable without entirely removing the strategic complexity that makes it so fun in the first place. The beauty of Little 3 Kingdoms is that it does nothing to ruin this perfectly fine game template. That's an achievement.

Match Panic is simple yet addictive fun that the kids can easily pick up and enjoy, but is challenging and addictive enough that adults shouldn't pass up on the game, even if the icon for the game is a panda with a frog on its head.
