Squids Wild West may not be a game for those who are hardcore turn-based strategy fans, as the amount of entropy involved in the game does derail some of the careful planning. But for the Angry Birds set looking to get in to a new type of game, Squids Wild West is a fun introduction.

Monument Valley is beautiful, that is unquestionable. But how it holds up as a game is debatable.

Rimelands is the first turn based RPG that I didn't feel constrained by the controls or game speed. On top of that, there is a good story, there are good characters, good combat, good level designs, and good graphics.

Mirror's Edge may be short, and not fully rid of the horrid combat that has brought its other incarnations down, but it still is a fantastic agile urban platformer that shines more than it ever did on the consoles.

Snuggle Truck may have lost some of its message in its style transition, but the game is still incredibly fun.

Spin Up is a great game for fans of the genre. As with most high-score based games repetition eventually sets in, but trying to earn enough experience points for new characters should keep the player busy for a good while.

I'd recommend it purely to support such a great game, if nothing else, but such features are quite handy.

There are few other games on iOS with the kind of gameplay that is deceptively complex, and with the kind of addictive properties to keep me going at it for hours on end, shirking all other responsibilities. When it isn't having technical issues, it is a must have.

Since I'm not a tower defense connoisseur I can't say for certain whether or not this will excite people who are. But as someone who tends to skirt the genre I can admit that I'm absolutely obsessed with Elf Defense.

Sunless Sea is a fascinating game because of its genre-blending and evocative writing and setting. It's also a game that provides both the freedom to let players do what they want and the structure to give players concrete goals to work toward, with both paths feeling satisfying even after several playthroughs of the game. It's truly a remarkable game. Go play it.

Definitely worthy of the title of a real flight simulator for iOS. It has been well adapted for the mobile platform and the whole gaming experience feels very natural.

The marriage of pixel art and beat machine is a match made in heaven, and brings some welcome innovation to the rhythm game genre.

Just the fact that this is a Bungie game should alone be enough to garner the interest of any gamer. Combine that with the freemium pricing model that gives you the first chapter of the game for free, and this is a surefire shot of success.

I could see Card Thief being a disappointment to those who like Card Crawl's straightforward translation of dungeon-crawling into a Solitaire game. But, if you enjoyed Card Crawl and were hoping for a successor that would take its concepts to the next level, Card Thief just might grab a permanent spot in your game folder.

Espgaluda II is a beautiful, well-developed port for the iPhone and the best 2D vertical shooter I've ever played. It's breathed new life into a stale, complacent genre and raised the bar for other 2D scrolling shooter developers.

Girls Like Robots is a fantastic puzzle game: there's a lot of creativity that came from such a simple starting point, and the way that everything expands out from its simple beginnings is the kind of trait that great games have.
