Not only has the group taken their sound and refined it even more, but even the ambient soundscapes and parts between the actual songs are more well constructed.
    • 76 Metascore
    • 60 Critic Score
Radio-friendly pop music that sometimes sounds like Garbage, and other times even more playful.
    • 50 Metascore
    • 60 Critic Score
It's a little cheesier than the average trance album, but will probably appeal to some of those who enjoy Paul Van Dyk or even ATB

Although it's a huge departure for those expecting more of the same from Holmes, it's easily the most sonically interesting release by him thus far.
    • 82 Metascore
    • 80 Critic Score
There is just enough of a changeup in the sounds of the songs (from a variety of releases) that makes the disc worth having if you enjoy the group.
    • 78 Metascore
    • 80 Critic Score
However slight it is, there's a measured optimism in some of the lyrics on the release that make the weight of things just a little easier to bear.
    • 68 Metascore
    • 80 Critic Score
This is by far their most polished and clean sounding album to date, as well as one that doesn't have the sort of immediately catchy tracks like on previous releases.
    • 66 Metascore
    • 70 Critic Score
While not every single thing they try works, it's still a very enjoyable listen.
    • 72 Metascore
    • 50 Critic Score
Minus a couple tracks on the release (including the very Luscious Jackson-esque "Roll The Dice"), this release is more like the female version of Air or Stereolab-lite.
    • 81 Metascore
    • 80 Critic Score
The simplicity of it all (only one instrument and vocals) highlights her vocals even more and even when the disc closes out with the more upbeat "Sea Of Love," you'll still feel a bit of melancholy hovering over.

Midnite Vultues kind of sounds like an album Prince would have made if he were more interested in being a geek than carressing his own ego.
    • 80 Metascore
    • 70 Critic Score
The Contino Sessions is definitely a step in the right direction for the group in terms of continuity and development of their sound, but their are still a few hiccups that they need to work out.

He jumps styles of music effortlessly, all the while managing to pull things together with touching and inventive lyrics.... One of the best releases of the year.
    • 88 Metascore
    • 60 Critic Score
One of the problems with the album is that after the super-solid beginning the second half or so of the album just doesn't compare.
    • 85 Metascore
    • 80 Critic Score
A very good slice of experimental pop.
    • 84 Metascore
    • 80 Critic Score
    It's a fun, varied excursion.
    • 75 Metascore
    • 60 Critic Score
It's sort of a bi-polar album of sorts, as it probably could have been cut down a lot in length and made into a concise gem of an album, but then you'd lose the odd atmosphere of the rest (which will either drive you nuts or space you out).

If you're a fan of the old Blur material, this disc may not be your thing.
    • 79 Metascore
    • 80 Critic Score
If you like the group's other work, you'll definitely want to pick this up, even though it may take awhile to grow on you. Just don't expect a revolution.
    • 79 Metascore
    • 80 Critic Score
It's sort of a cross between the epic masterpieces of Perfect From Now On and the shorter, more pop songs of There's Nothing Wrong With Love. Basically, it's another winner from the group.
