Though there’s not a ton of replay value to this one, if you play it on the medium (or highest, if you’re totally insane) difficulty setting, you’ll have enough of a challenge to get a big dose of the sick and twisted Hitman-style gaming all us psycho-killers have grown used to over the years.

The Painkiller soundtrack doesn’t exist. It is a heavily repetitious heavy metal lick that repeats itself way too much.

The language does get a little tiring, although some of it is pretty funny, at least the first time through.

A very simple game, but it is also very entertaining. It is easy to whittle away hours chasing galleons, seeking buried treasure or raiding ports. Meier seems to have a way with making games that are hard to stop playing.

A double-barreled shotgun, a gravity gun…oops, I mean grabber, Hell Time and slight variations on demons are fun in Doom 3 but not a good enough reason to buy the expansion pack.

A decent game with an outstanding theme and some innovative ideas for making an FPS more challenging, but remains bogged down with frustrations by the same ideas.

The PC release of this one feels as though it was rushed, and will probably bring you nearly as much pain as it does pleasure.

It’s not that it’s that bad of a game, it’s just that most of what’s under the hood on this one has been done before.

It’s just a 12 to 14 hour example of untapped potential and a lot of things we’ve seen before.
