    If Naval Assault had been a downloadable Xbox Live Arcade title, it would have been easy to forgive a lot of its shortcomings. Unfortunately, it's not; it looks like a last-gen game, with some of the worst sound design and music I've seen in a retail release, no mid-mission checkpoints, and most importantly, not much to hold one's interest for more than a few fleeting moments.

    Perhaps the game's most interesting aspect is its release date. In early November 2008 it hit store shelves, just in time for the Presidential election. Considering it's got a narrative enveloping a potential assassination, a vice-president with a distinctly Cheney-like appearance, and threats from a militant foreign power, perhaps Activision thought it the best window to publish. As it turns out, the release represents pretty bad taste, particularly because the game does not attempt to resolve or present its issues or themes in any sort of elegant manner. Instead it's very much a crude, bumbling mess of a conspiracy plot on a level of ridiculous that occasionally exceeds even the preposterous exploits of Jack Bauer.

    Synetic has a basic grounding in good car physics and better-than-average artificial intelligence, which gives World Racing 2 an underlying level of quality. Unfortunately, its poor presentation, rough course design and horrific car designs add to the game's poor sense of balance and fairness.

    Better shooters are available for free on the web or for a small fee through Live Arcade. If you loved Scramble in 1981, then there might be something here worth looking at. Otherwise, you'd be much better off sticking with "Galaga" or "Geometry Wars."

    Whether or not you like boxing or anime is irrelevant, as Victorious Boxers: Revolution fails to deliver motion controls that top even Wii Sports Boxing, offers very little as far as anime games go (even the simplistic Eyeshield 21 has this beat), and is a total mess of wonky control schemes, weak presentation, and broken gameplay.

    There is some satisfaction to successfully solving the game's obtuse puzzles, but the frustration of finding the right items or touching the right spots to reach those solutions outweighs any sense of accomplishment you'll get.
