This solid shoot'em up valued by the extreme thrill seekers and fans of gore opens an entirely new chapter. So new, in fact, that the game had lost somewhere a few nuances coveted in the first rendition. [Mar 2009]

It feels like I'm playing an absurdly extended minigame, leaping a pit here, using a glove there, pushing a button from time to time and generally enjoying the movie-like experience. But if you don't find any of the aspects of it enjoyable, the whole puzzle falls apart and even Elika's charms won't save it. [Jan 2009]

It's not recommended for the beginners, who will likely get stuck very early on, but the C&C veterans will fall in love with it. It has new cool units, but the most delightful part is the mini campaign in which you get to play as the insane and hot Yuriko. [May 2009]

It's not a new Painkiller, but the constant carnage acts as a perfect stress reliever and it has a great variety of drastic antics, some of which, like the burning shovel-throwing kaiser zombies, make me all warm and fuzzy inside. The story is completely brain-dead, the hero's monologues worse than Vogon poetry, and the (painfully long) letters of the deceased soldiers that are read on the loading screens even worse, but these obstacles can be overcome if you are after pure, absurdly intensive action. This unique knight simulator is extremely immersive and playable despite having some minor if irritating glitches. Where else could I plan my own war campaigns or rebel and found an independent kingdom? [Dec 2008]

Excellent and demanding slasher with beautiful visuals and wondrous heroes. Capcom did finally get its act together and the PC version no longer is just a pale specter of its console original. There is so many fighting moves that most gamers will probably never discover all of them. [Aug 2008]

Everything that annoyed the hell out of me in the first edition has been fixed. The new story predating the original is much better presented and more coherent. Spectacular lightning effects are just the icing on a cake, which is a boon, because turning them off boosts the framerate considerably. [Oct 2008]

The new Total War combines the power of this benchmark series with a new wave of ideas. The presentation, if solid, is nothing revolutionary, and the sea warfare is unfortunately less-than-total, but the gameplay, atmosphere and the wide opportunities it offers are impressive. [Mar 2009]

Ascaron team deserves a bow with a flourish for their creation: a beautiful, rich fantasy world. It also deserves a kick in the pants for spoiling the fun with lots of annoying bugs. But punishing the enemies using an electric guitar relieves the tension considerably. [Dec 2008]

The new Bond game isn't a jewel, but it's better than most games based on a movie franchise. You can fairly easily pull off the spectacular moves as seen in the film, the difficulty level is set so low as to let the casual players who just loved the movie enjoy the game too. [Jan 2009]

Adventure with a physics engine? Wait until you check out the puzzles. Or, if thrillers aren't your thing, better not. The arctic setting, the mysterious sounds and frightening sights combine into a terrifying experience - it's The Thing meets Lost! [Apr 2008]

Nothing really ground-breaking here, just a great online shooter set at a pace adequate for folks with ADHD. Each of the five classes is important, and the teamwork is essential. Even the best body count doesn’t bring full satisfaction if your team fails to secure the mission objectives, because you screwed disarming the bomb or covering the hacker. [Dec 2007]

Dark humor, brutal combat system, riveting story, wide opportunities for exploration and development in the unforgettable postapocalyptic setting. No, it's not a holy Grail some rpg fans were looking for, but a very decent game nonetheless. [Dec 2008]

Finally, the ingenious inventor and his heroic dog made their way into the games industry. The result is a very pleasant, if a bit archaic adventure with quite decent puzzles. It is a real shame that the game is also rather short and so extravagantly priced. But it's splendid anyway. [May 2009]

It's the best iteration in many years, and certainly the most sophisticated. Even if the newfangled mouse control mode isn't to your liking, you'll find that the game has been strengthened at its core and raised to a new level of quality. [Oct 2008]

The news of Riddick's comeback made my subwoofer purr with delight. The rough Vin Diesel adds a truckload of mood to this excellent and diverse game. And when I finally reclined in my armchair after five solid hours of action, I was in for a surprise - the end was not yet in sight! [May 2009]

The add-on is huge and packed to the brim with new shiny toys... I mean features. But it turns out that the world destroyers are not the biggest treat. They are hideously expensive and require escort. The best thing are the new technology trees, unique for each race. [July 2008]

Bill Tiller and his buddies who once labored over The Curse of Monkey Island and Steven Spielberg's The Dig had trouble getting their newest baby published and finally it was adopted by an European company. It irks me that in many places the Ubisoft team didn't bother to polish the details, but this game has so many nice little features that it's hard to stay angry for long. The weapons have a heavenly look and a hellish bang, if much too weak recoil. [June 2008]

With axe and bloody sweat this game stakes its territory on the MMOG map. Not to mention meaty thuds and fountains of gore after certain critical hits. Hopefully the new quests keep coming, especially for the high level characters, as the gameplay becomes progressively simple the farther you get into the game. [Sept 2008]

The intriguing story, breathtaking views and flawless acrobatic maneuvers are terrific, in fact, almost everything is nigh perfect, except tracking and eliminating the targets. That's right, in a game about an assassin the most boring part is his job. Well, just a part of it - the medieval parkour never gets old. [May 2008]

The ruthless butchers of Stillwater are back to redefine evil in games. This gangster sim is as vile as possible, and I don't mean the way the game is made... perhaps with the exception of graphics. It's something for everyone who tried everything in games. Turns out there's a thing or two left. The atmosphere is great, a bit weird, a bit clownish - but the Liberty City remains far above. [Mar 2009]

The expansion adds a whole slew of reliable German hardware and starting the career in 1943 or 44 lets you use the radar, radar detector and decent hydrophone immediately. And you can now issue orders to certain allied units, including Japanese recon planes and a pocket battleship. Fun!
