The controls aren’t tight enough – especially in regards to the vehicles – the camera is rarely on-point, the music isn’t prominent enough, the AI is iffy, and the overall fun factor dips frequently. On the other hand, there are plenty of pluses and I don’t like to frown on good ideas, even if they didn’t quite execute said ideas to the best of their ability. -

It’s just nothing special, that’s all. But if you want some simple, straightforward, fairly well done FPS fun for only ten bucks (and you don’t have to go anywhere to nab it, either), feel free to give it a shot. It’s a surprisingly fast download and you’ll be blowing away baddies before you know it. Just don’t expect too much. -

I really do understand the intention behind the franchise's overhaul but sadly, it just doesn't work as well as it could've. I'm just not sure who they're going to satisfy. The strategy/RPG fans won't touch it with a ten-foot cattle prod and the action fans don't usually flock to mech titles, which dominate the Japanese culture but aren't as big here. -

A competent action slash-fest, loaded with tons of great enemy and character design, impressive animations, and an accessible, moderately rewarding combat system. But the backdrops are just too bland and uninspired, the repetitive nature of the gameplay gets tiresome, and that accessibility borders on tedious simplicity.- Posted Aug 5, 2011

There are several great ideas here, but they're sort of mired beneath the weight of a generic shooter. The multiplayer isn't overwhelmingly great, either, and despite a really solid story with a lot of potential, a few compelling characters, and an immersive, challenging environment, Spec Ops: The Line doesn't make good on its lofty claims.- Posted Jun 26, 2012

If you were a fan of the movie and want to re-live the experience, this isn’t a bad way to do it, but if you’re looking for a game that expands upon the movie, or one that stands on its own, it doesn’t get the job done. -

It just isn't as refined as it could've been and even kids will easily notice the problems, which is why the game falls short of the goal. Even so, it's a darn sight better than the Backyard options and next year's installment might end up being…you know, good. -

The DOOM 3 BFG Edition still boasts some decent thrills here and there, it controls fine, and the atmosphere remains impressive. I don’t see a reason that EA feels like a port with no real enhancements is worth full retail price, especially since they couldn’t be bothered to update the horribly outdated rosters, which were already old on the PS2, and are even worse now. It's a mediocre offering of baseball that does little to fix the issues that plagued 2K7. A.I. is still questionable, and sliders don't help alleviate the issues. Mode offerings desperately need a rookie-superstar mode of some sort, and the overall feel of the game is in dire need of polish. -

Does a lot of things well, even if the pacing, depth, and overall immersion isn't where it needs to be. The basic control for each event is mostly intuitive and solid, there are a ton of events, using Move adds a lot to the gameplay, and skill supersedes luck (as well it should, of course). Critic Score 60
The off-sync graphics are more humorous than they ought to be, the lyrics display makes it tough to keep up with subsequent verses, the censoring on some tracks is hit or miss, and the arrangement of some tracks puts focus on verses and choruses that aren't the main parts of the rap. Individually, any of those problems could be forgiven. Taken together, they make it tough to recommend this game to longtime fans of rap and hip-hop. -

Despite all of its time in development, Prototype feels hollow and uninspired. Critic Score 60
It offers diversity for Bethesda, definitely. But at the same time, the gamble is that it's coming from an unproven developer, and as an all new I.P., it has a very small chance of selling well enough for Bethesda to consider it a good pick-up from Activision's table scraps. -

Critic Score 60
What I once pegged as a sleeper hit has left me disappointed. X-Blades is riddled with potential, but thanks to a series of poor design choices, the game lacks the core fundamentals that made games like Devil May Cry and Heavenly Sword so great. The tiny environments, the tedious and boring combat, poor audio, and lackluster control feel really bring down what could've been a solid game. -

Critic Score 60
The game is riddled with immense potential that is overshadowed by a myriad of amateur flaws that should've never been there in the first place. Frantix just doesn't quite work. Seriously, ask yourself "do I find mazes fun?" For most people, the answer is no. Worse, the few diehard maze fanatics out there that actually might want a game like this will probably be turned off by its dodgy controls. -

Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two has the right idea. It encourages youngsters to work together, that magical Disney quality is prevalent, and the overall design is actually quite good. But a shroud of poor mechanics and outdated technical elements dooms this potentially enjoyable adventure from the start. Bad AI, loose control, collision detection issues, and vague, sometimes boring objectives keep getting in the way.- Posted Jan 9, 2013

All I can say to the dedicated followers is this- Play the game on Hard Mode. It's really the only way you'll make it feel like Ninja Gaiden. This simply isn't what I'd call a polished game; it is below what the average racing game should be. It's largely ruined by its impairing visuals, as they prevent you from accurately judging distances, thus ruining your ability to take a proper turn. It offers the rudimentary gameplay content, and doesn't have any online gameplay to speak of. -

The control can be iffy, a few of the event mechanics are horrendous, the technicals are sadly well under par, and the Campaign includes plenty of “what the hell am I doing this for?” moments. But you can wrap your brain around most of the gameplay, and that’s a definite plus. With multiple difficulty levels and the chance to include some buddies in your play time, you could have plenty of fun when the wintry weather keeps you inside. -
