Captivating from its first minute forward, "24" is the rare example of a television pilot that hits every mark with an aura of excitement and precision, a stellar cast that exudes personality and personal history, and direction that is as taut as it gets. [2 Nov 2001]

What makes '24' so nail-biting good is its use of layered storytelling, plot twists and visual trickery to create the illusion of action. The premiere starts slowly, then picks up steam as it darts deftly in and out of six different stories. ... The genius of '24' is that it makes each minute feel more precious than the last. The lingering concussion of Sept. 11 does nothing to undermine Fox's new thriller focusing on terrorism. Instead, it adds to its credibility and makes it all the more gripping. [6 Nov 2001]

If the next 23 hours are half as spellbinding as tonight's - and, of course, providing that the TV audience is ready to find a terrorist attack entertaining - 24 could still be the hit of the season. [6 Nov 2001]

Tedious and banal, '24' lacks the engrossing panache TV's 'Mission Impossible' had years ago. Even though a well-rested-looking Sutherland is cool, steady and right for his role, he can't carry the show alone. [4 Nov 2001]

Si señor. Donde todo empezó. La primera temporada, Jack Bauer comienza sus vivencias. En cuanto a la serie, la mejor que he visto en mi vida. Muy adictiva, ves un capitulo y automáticamente tenes ver 4 mas, al menos. Expand

Easily the greatest event, season, and story to have ever been placed on air. There is nothing anyone can say to explain it, it is just the most spectacular show that will leave your American souls begging for more. Expand

''Right now, terrorists are planning to assassinate a presidential candidate. My wife and daughter have been kidnapped... and people that I work with may be involved in both. I'm Federal Agent Jack Bauer, and this is the longest day of my life.''. That intro sums up the plot of the first season of 24.

Having an entire season of a show take place over the space of a day in real time was a terrific idea and it makes for a fantastically entertaining show. The show moves at a breakneck speed, full of action, tension and unpredictable twists and turns around every corner. That makes it very addictive.

This first season isn't perfect, a couple of plot points are recycled a little too much for my tastes and some of the subplots in the second half of the season to keep Bauer's wife and daughter relevant are not on a par with the main plot but the rest of it is just so good that this doesn't matter. Kiefer Sutherland and Dennis Haybert both light up the screen and help make the stories of Jack Bauer and David Palmer so gripping.

One part shouts and explosions, one part gruffly-whispered soap opera, mostly unbearable tension, all crypto-fascist masturbatory fantasy. Fox's most embarrassing indulgence. Expand

24, the mother of all ADHD-TV series. There is nothing more to say. I do not know what many like about this series. I find it unbearable. A actionistic action hunting the next. Only Kiefer Sutherland remains true to itself and, as always, consistently unsympathetic. Collapse
