It could be a problem Allen Gregory solves later on, either by softening its main character (and his dad) or by pushing supporting characters more to the forefront, but the version on display in the pilot is one I have no interest in ever watching again.

With no other likable characters and a thin premise, Allen Gregory seems as one-dimensional as the animation.

Although Allen Gregory might have worked as a sardonic, sideways blow to the gifted-child culture, it is so thoroughly coated in a single flavor of sourness that it is difficult to view it as anything but pointless and quickly repetitive.

For all its stylistic appeal, one sizable problem remains with Allen Gregory--it's not funny.

For what it's worth, Hill's performance as Allen Gregory's titular character is the only noteworthy aspect of an otherwise shoddy show.

Gross, ugly, vicious and stupid--Allen is all of that, to be sure. But funny? Too rarely to matter.

Allen Gregory is not funny--not even a little bit--and it is not remotely entertaining.

This show doesn't entertain you, it just makes you so mad at the main character that you want someone to punt him off the Empire State Building. That isn't entertainment, that is torture to a human mind. I don't care how different the producers wanted this show to be, but they need to get back to the drawing board. Hell, even the visuals were lackluster. Full Review »

I just had to stop to see why people thought this show as so terrible. Turns out they were right about all of it. This is one of the mostI just had to stop to see why people thought this show as so terrible. Turns out they were right about all of it. This is one of the most laugh-free time wasters you'll ever see, and one of the most uncomfortable. Almost all of the characters are absolutely horrible, and Allen Gregory himself along with his father are some of the worst characters ever to be allowed on TV. They are entirely self-obsessed and have zero understanding of right and wrong, imposing their will on all others no matter what gets in their way, with everyone slave to their stupidity and ignorance no matter what. It's situations are revolting and it has absolutely none of the sophistication of clever tongue-in-cheek satire of The Simpsons or South Park. Instead it seems to rely solely on shock value and on being as aggressively mean-spirited as possible. All of it without any point whatsoever, and you feel terrible for characters like Jeremy and Julie who must endure the abuses at the hands of the father/son duo from Hell every waking moment of their lives. This show crosses every line but there's no point to any of it, and it just isn't at all that funny for those reasons and so many more. I think I recall at most five or six points in these seven episodes where I chuckled a little, the rest of the time I just sat there in quiet disbelief. Thankfully there were only seven episodes made; any more than that of the sick twisted things this show chucks out would've simply been too much. Has to be seen to be believed. Just to understand its utter failure at anything resembling "comedy". Full Review »
