The soul of the show, though, is its conflicted "heroes," truly tortured, in palpable ways, recalling the best, early days of NBC's ill-fated Monday comic book. There's no cartoonery here. Just adult adventure and angst.

Alphas deftly balances all the building blocks of great genre--nonhuman abilities, twisty plot, cool special effects, smart dialogue and characters you want to spend more time with. And that's the most impressive superpower of all.

Alphas proceeds with a relative sobriety that will prove attractive to some and simply unintoxicating to others. If there are any grown-up fanboys left in America--people who can bring themselves to admit that this summer's blockbusters-in-tights are meager gruel--then Alphas may have enough beta charm to see them through the season.

Writers: Consistently writing fast pace, interesting, dynamic story lines. In almost every episode I am blind sided by some crazy realization or action sequence. They are fantastic at presenting characters and their abilities and the science behind it all… without making it feel like a bio-lecture. Characters: Great. All of them really. I love Gary, his character is so dynamic and I am so glad he got this role after being shot in Bones… I like Dr. Rosen. He is all the mental greatness of professor-X only without mega superpowers and lets face it he is mega-sexy for an old dude. I hope I can stay in that good of shape and presence of mind when I am that old. Issues? None. I think most people who are unhappy with the series try and compare it to other things or are impossible to please/ jaded by the failed attempts in the genre. this show works. It may not be ground-braekingly original, but everything it does is done well. Don't listen to those haters...They are way to harsh way to fast... thinking they were hired by the government to divert people from watching... what are yall hiding?! but If your a true sci/fi fan I think you'll like if not love this show Expand

  2. What was advertised as a gripping new Sci-Fi series is in fact a very low budget and rather dul series of events that we just don't care about. Often the pilot is about setting the scene and introducing the characters, so when the scene is just not realistic and you don't care about the characters, it does rather make you wonder what they were trying to do. Ok, I will give it one more episode but there is much better TV out there, so why waste your time? Expand

  3. I really wanted to like this show, love David Strathairn, and after this last episode, a resounding NO. It's Wanted meets Fringe but not nearly as good as the movie or tv show. Nothing is original about this show. The last show was 28 days later, down to the SAME exact music, very sad, very sad Expand
