As a drama, Banshee is preposterous. It is ludicrous. It regularly defies laws of both plausibility and physics, and there's usually at least one moment per episode where I have to pause the action because I can't stop laughing at how ridiculous it all is.... And that is why I've come to love it.
If you aren’t watching Banshee, I’d say now’s the time to climb aboard. It’s a show that’s just hitting its stride, and that stride averages about 100 miles an hour.

Probably one of my favourite TV shows. However, it is very explicit in all forms, so I can see how others would find it "too much". The interesting thing about this show is that the story, character development, and acting, are all fantastic, and it does not just rely on excessive violence and sexual content to hold the audiences attention.

If you like watching fighting and **** this is the show for you. I was glued to the show from the first episode super violent with crazy characters it's pure entertainment highly recommended

It's the characters of Banshee and their labyrinth of relationships that make the show an engrossing, entertaining portrait of a fictional small town.
Like True Blood, Banshee can be preposterously entertaining, or perhaps entertainingly preposterous.
A slow-pokey drama punctuated by shocking violence and sex.
Banshee has has elements of "Justified," "Big Love," Ball's "True Blood" and, of course, the film "Witness." What it doesn't have, at least in the first two episodes, is anything new to say, about small towns, power, corruption, fear, crime or love.
Banshee has the audacity to behave as though its bloody violence, implausible set-up and studied ugliness is somehow vanguard television. In fact, it's just more of the same.
Banshee is an incredible show. Perfect casting (Starr, Miličević, Thomsen, Faison, Servitto, Lee, Shane, Rauch, Dunn, Simmons, Segees, Vasilopoulos are incredible. Grosse is underused. Cross is the only one who could have been cast better). The writing, the cinematography, the direction, the editing — spot on. Some may think there is too much sex & gore, but I think both are integral to the storytelling. It’s a one of a kind production.

This show is fairly unique, with a "realistic" gritty setting and ultra-voilent fist-fights set between a cast of exaggerated, but highly-entertaining characters.
That said, while Season 1 starts out a bit slow it really hits its grove towards the end and really peaks with season 2.
After that unfortunately, the writing falters and the show becomes less and less consistent. The plot lines go over the top or nowhere. It's a bummer, because up until then, the show is truly excellent.
Season 4 is pretty self-contained and feels very different from the others. A bit on an unworthy ending for a previously great show.
