With season 5, Breaking Bad is still in the top 30% shows on TV--the problem is that the previous four seasons put it in the top 5%. Breaking Bad's strength has always been its balance between plot and character development, alongside mostly excellent acting. Season 5 tilts this balance far too much towards plot development. And the plot, through five episodes of this season, comes up short: Far too often it appears forced, featuring too many unrealistic coincidences and predictable twists. As such, the actors don't have the opportunity to shine, as in the previous four seasons, instead appearing stagnated in a predictable, slightly above average drama. Expand

Season 5 does not begin to compare to seasons 4,3,2and 1. Season 5 is barely watchable and BB is my favorite show. A big yawn for all season 5 episodes. What has happened to this show?!

This show is not yet close to as good as the mentalist because of how there is red john and how every episode is epic. I believe that this show could be alot better than it currently is.

Breaking Bad [is] a radical type of television, and also a very strange kind of must-watch: a show that you dread and crave at the same time.

The season five preĀmiere "Live Free or Die", more than maintains the series' record of excellence.

The arc of this character--series creator Vince Gilligan's invention of Walter White as a sick soul--is, it's clear now. one of the great narratives in Television histpory. [13 Jul 2012, p.62]
