Lotsa fast banter and stylish direction will make some viewers dimly recall--as they are doubtlessly meant to--William Powell and Myrna Loy's late, great "Thin Man" movie series.

Fillion and Katic occasionally seem a little too self-conscious--a little smirk goes a long way--but ultimately the characters are too appealing to resist.

Yes, it is all kind of dopey and has that "been there/ done that" feel. But Fillion is so right for the part and carries the show so well that he makes the show more fun than it deserves for an otherwise by-the-book procedural.

This sort of banter takes up a good portion of the Castle premiere episode, each instance of it reinforcing the always-already familiar premise.
  5. I know this is going to come as a shock, but when the scene is designed around Kate, the show sags. By contrast, when Rick strolls into the room, the show perks up.
  6. If ABC's new cop drama, Castle, can slightly tweak its title character, it could turn into a very nice little show. In Monday night's premiere episode, it's just not quite there.
  7. The trouble with Castle is that it's just so completely fluffy - which is annoying.

The actors are talented enough to make the show work though; I really like Katic and Fillion. A lot. Expand

A little humor, a little mystery, and a little sexual tension-what could be better. I know there are tons of cop dramas and detective shows out there, but I liked this because it put a little humor in it. There's enough seriousness out in the real world, I want a little laugh in my entertainment. Expand

Can't get into a rich, arrogant, wise-cracking character who has no regard for anyone alive or dead.
