Not funny at all. Comedy central really dropped the ball on this one. To compare this show to the Chapelle Show is an insult to Dave Chapelle and his writers. Its a shame, this show was a good concept but David Allen grear blew it.

Pretty good. Had some funny vignettes. People are comparing this to chappelle's show, and while the two are similar, they really can't be compared. I think it's being unfairly compared to chappelle's show only because they're both black. This show has a lot more relevant political humor than Chappelle does.

This show was alot better when it was called The Chappelle Show. D.A.G.'s handlers just have him screaming about how white people are dumb and black people can't do anything wrong. Fail.

Ok....so if you get pass the stereotypes, the downright ghetto skits and the painful ignorance....its STILL not funny. I am a black man who watches Comedy Central all the time, but this is the most ignorant piece of work I've ever seen. What do reviewers see in this show?

It seems like tey are trying too hard. Not funny at all. Overacting in skits and stupid story lines. I change the channel when it comes on. In this day of economic hurt, I suggest to that network to quit advertising junk like that.

"Mind of Mencia" lite. Suggesting this show is a worthy replacement for the Chappelle Show is disgusting.

This is the worst show I have ever seen. If I had known that taking a crap on film would be considered a show, my show would be better then chocolate news. That show is so insulting to the afro americans its not even funny. If you love this show, email me and I will poop on a napkin, and you will go crazy!

I'm sorry but the critics must have been paid off this show is just pure unadulterated garbage and David Allen Grier is not a good comedian he can't stand by himself he needs somebody funnier then he is to be successful.

This show was a huge bait and switch. Comedy Central showed some relatively funny ads for this program and I was under the impression that his show would be funny, and boy was I wrong. Relatively bland humor and a lack of general engagement make this show a huge turn off. Basically picture the Daily Show and Chapelle Show having a kid and it being mentally handicapped, that is how I would describe this show. Expand

Absolutely horrible....i used to like David, however this show is so ridiculous its painful. I forced myself to sit down and try to watch the show, just to see if it would pick up its pace...it failed...can not compare to chappelle show, so stop before you start....this would be funny to an audience who is clueless on black community, however the humor is old, outdated and just plain boring im sorry...You can find just about any one that could throw together some crap like this. I am just shocked that this show is getting good reviews. to me it looked painfully unfunny, but after watching it i realized it is only just unfunny. i miss dave chappelle. at least they know this guy won't bail. he'd be stupid to give up on a job with his lack of talent.

The show actually hurts to watch. The host seems cocky and displays unneeded sarcasm constantly. The host's personality ruins the show.

This show is rarely funny. Since this show was an attempt to replace chappelle show it has failed terribly.

People should not compare this show with Dave Chappelle because Dave never said a sentence with a crappy punch line, then look at the camera like he is about to fart while (for some reason) the audience is laughing.

It hurts just to watch Chocolate News. I am a big fan of Comedy Central. I leave my TV on this channel most of the time; I own all of Chappelle’s Show and Mind of Mencia DVDs. However, this is one of the shows that remind me to switch channel (the other one being Sarah Silverman’s program, but hers is way better, just not my taste). If I type this long for something bad, it usually means it REALLY bad, so bad that it motivates me so much. I am very open minded and I can take most of the jokes, but this show is just unbearable. When I saw the commercials before the first episode, I thought it sounds like a good show, but 15 minutes into the first episode, I still could not find a single line funny. The show gives me a very uncomfortable feeling. I don’t know how to describe it; maybe it’s the speaking tone of David Alan Grier or something else. There are tons of sketches in the show, and Alan tries hard to be funny by dressing up as a woman…etc. It just doesn’t work for me. It’s like watching a truck driver doing a belly dance, it might be funny for the first 5 seconds but it’s not comedy. I feel the same for Chocolate News. It lacks the sarcasm needed for political jokes and the cleaver twists of general jokes, or, at least, I can’t feel it. It is just obscene, not in a good way. Please Comedy Central, stop wasting our time and stop the program. Let’s the next promising comedian give his/her shot. Alan tried and failed, and it’s time for us to call: NEXT!. Expand

DAG is a graduate of Yale Drama. If your IQ is to low to process this show then your missing out. This show is Frasier of sketch comedy. This is not the Chappelle Show. Chappelle had some great skits, but they were hit and miss just like all skit shows. The people that are trying to compare these shows have no idea of what real comedy is. The viewers that clam it isn't funny are the ones that want to laugh at a skinny jackass who will do a black crack head skit and a black Klan leader, rather then one who can have a wide range of characters. If you notice no matter how crazy DAG's characters are, they always end on a positive note.Chappelle lacked ingredients of a true comedy. He was more of a minstrel show. He always harped on racial togetherness, but all his skits where on black stereotypes and he complained about whites all the time. Interesting how is best friend and co-writer is white, but yet he acts like they are the DEVIL. DAG has skits from school principles to porn stars . His commentary covers all groups. If you do something dumb then he is going to call you on it.DAG covers all bases. Chapelle used the N word every other second, how is that funny? As an African American male I was tired of hearing it. Why do you think Bill Cosby and the other powers that be wanted him off the air. I think both shows have their place, but if you don't get it then turn the channel. I never liked the show Friends, but loved Seinfeld. To different shows that were both sitcoms that you cant compare. Chappelle and Chocolate News are both sketch shows that can't be compared. Expand

This show was terrible. I understood most of the jokes as I downgraded to their level. when they said ''news at the african american'' perspective I expected an urban- colbert/stewart type of show which is a good idea. but this show went off the theme of news. it was just plain sketches... since they said news the expectations were not met and it makes african americans appear unintelligent when comparing to the other comical news shows such as colbert and stewart who mantain a balance of current news and comedy. As funny, if not funnier than Chappelle Show. Just as powerful as "I'm Rick James, b***h!", people are going to sing and hum Phat Man's 'No Child Left Behind' for months to come. The first two episodes were flawless. Shows like Frank Tv highlight Frank's ability to do impersonations, but I've gone countless episodes without cracking a smile ( He was a lot funnier on Mad TV). David Alan Grier is a Comedic Genius! Can't wait for episode 3! Expand

Solid comedy by David Alan Grier, who has been an underrated talent. It can only get better as he settles into the format.

This show is horrifically bad. It's like "Mind of Mencia" but much less funny (I know! hard to imagine, but DAG pulled it off). I wouldn't even recommend this show to my worst enemy. It's that bad.

I was expecting a pretty good show just because I watch Comedy Central pretty frequently and most of the shows are really good entertainment. However, this is probably one of the worst shows I've ever seen on the station.

The potential was there but it was terrible execution of this show. There were a few funny moments but it was mostly trash and it was pretty boring as well.

This is social satire, and Grier's job is to make a mainstream audience see race and power in new ways. That often involves shock.

Credit Grier for trying, credit Comedy Central for adding another voice to the mix, and keep hoping that a show like this eventually hits its stride.

It pales-- satirically speaking, anyway--when compared with the "Daily Show," especially with Chocolate's tired sketch about imaginary rapper Phat Man. More promising is a bit in which Grier's Maya Angelou recites a poem penned to commemorate a McCain victory
