I really missed Da Ali G Show on HBO. That was the best late-night show since The Chris Rock Show and Dennis Miller Live. I remember when he made a cameo appearance in the Madonna video "Music," but he's so stylish, looked like Jam Master Jay or LL Cool J back in the Def Jam 80's heyday, and his glasses looked kinda weird. The critics really missed the mark here, sometimes analyzing a show intellectually is simply the wrong way to go about judging it. Simply watch if you haven't yet, and even if his brilliantly brazen absurdity doesn't match your style of humor, you can at least appreciate there never has, and never will be anything else on television quite like it. Too bad this show doesn't run outtakes. Wouldn't you love to hear what the victims of Ali's ambushes had to say about him? [20 Feb 2003, p.4]

The funniest thing about the show is that people think he's legit in every single persona. I personally couldn't believe that Edwin Meese, former Attorney General Dick Thornberg or General Brent Scowcroft would be idiotic enough to be lured into a formal interview with a guy in a giant yellow track suit. Funny in parts, overlong and out of steam in some taped bits and generally very inside in the humor department. Late night's a good spot for it, but the push for cult appeal in this six-seg series feels forced. [20 Feb 2003, p.10]
