Science channel publicity materials call the show "a real-life Twilight Zone," and in terms of mood, that's on the mark.

Like a hybrid human, Dark Matters combines science with good, old-fashioned thrills to produce a whole new species. Great fun.

It plays as cheap voyeuristic thrills, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but does keep the show percolating at a somewhat low level.

This review contains spoilers. While the show is a bit uneven, when it hits the mark (like the use town in France driven mad by a CIA experiment) it can be quite illuminating. The problem is that all the stories don't quite reach this level. Collapse
