Syfy's Defiance doesn't just cement its place as a well-made and enjoyable show, it continues to serve as a welcome corrective to some recent trends in TV sci-fi.
It's got a solid, if not original, premise (a Western with aliens); relatively impressive effects and makeup; and reliably interesting characters such as Doc Yewll (Trenna Keating)
I just finished Binge-watching both Seasons 1&2 and the first 3 episodes of S3 so that is what this review is based upon. I will start by saying OMG this show is Phenomenal. I had nothing to watch since GOT ended and I decided to watch this and thank God for that bc this show killed it in every area. I will start with the story it takes place on Earth in the year 2046 after multiple alien species landed years prior and centers upon Nolan and Irisa in the Town of Defiance. The story is simple but gets even better as time progresses. I will now talk about the cast which is in my opinion the best part. I will credit the 2 best actors in the show that being Nolan played by Grant Bowler and my favorite character Datak who is played by Tony Curran both are astounding actors. I will also say that all of the actors and actresses did an Amazing job of keeping the story engaging. I will now movie onto the action which I will say is sometimes a tad corny but the majority of the time it's Insanely Epic. I would recommend this show in a heart beat and S3 is so far the Best season yet. F.Y.I one of the main villains in S3 called General Rahm Tak who is played by Lee Tergesen is an absolutely mind blowing villain who is now probably just after 3 episodes my favorite villain of any television show to date. Go and Watch this show Now lolz.
With Season 2, the producers let go of the show, and it went nuts.
It's hard to write a review because I don't want to give anything away.
The overall production value went up, and the character work, even minor ones was more polished.
There was more conflict, some major plot twists, new major characters, and lots of character development.
Most important, the show took some steps to show the audience the world outside the town of Defiance, and that had a huge impact on how the story resonates.
If you watched through the first season and weren't put off by the show, definitely watch season 2.
Season 2 is becoming more interesting. I hope this series survives a few more seasons. I also hope this series will bring more futuristic technologies and gadgets into the equations. Loving episode 10. More great "old timer" sci-fi actors should join the clan.
Much better, but computer graphics still bad, so we are waiting for Season 3, and we hope that all will survive the series (it is very interesting story they chose)
Great first episode of the second season!!! Gone is the pedantic, spoon feeding story telling method of the first season - good riddance! Now we see a potential glimmer of a deeply layered story line, moving characters, foreshadowing and heaven forbid: a sense of mood and setting that differentiates this show from its contemporaries! Here's to hoping that the writing team will continue to weave their writing threads in a captivating matter that will snare a new audience.
It was a pretty bad start for the second season. They learned nothing from the fails in season 1.EVERYONE is still unlikeable with the exception of Nolan. That is not **** hole world of defiance is annoying.I realy hoped they would change at least tiny bits.Instead they tried to darken the mood a bit further with the occupation. That **** acting is still solid, the visuals still cheap and the setting still **** you liked season 1 youll probally like season 2.
