  1. If you're looking for allegorical, intriguing science fiction, this isn't it. If you're OK with rapid-fire, light-hearted dialogue with an occasional dig at politics and culture, this "Doctor Who" is your cup of tea.
  2. Like so much British science fiction, especially Douglas Adams's "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" series, this "Doctor Who" has a goofy, homemade quality; it's less interested in gizmos than in characters.
  3. Despite a few missteps, there's much to recommend.

This remake achieves an Avengers-like balance of cheeky wit amid the cheesiness.
  5. Silly, sophomoric stuff that is sure to please its television audience.

It's pretty decent hokum--fast, corny, genial, honest in its schlock.

Yes, it may have cheesy effects here and there, and yes a couple episodes like "The Long Game" or "Aliens of London" don't exactly hit a home run, but it's by far made up for with fantastic episodes like "Rose", "Dalek", "Father's Day", "The Empty Child", and "Bad Wolf". Christopher Eccleston does a fine job to portray a dark, troubled man like the Doctor, and Billie Piper does a good job to play an average, yet brave 19-year old. Not to mention, that diner scene in "Boom Town" is something I'll never forget for all the right reasons. Doctor Who, you're absolutely fantastic! Expand
