If this one doesn't make you laugh, it may be time to report to the cryogenics lab. [26 May 1995]

Ingenious. ... It's an inspired, imaginative technique, making the slices of standup routines fit seamlessly into the therapy sessions, which is sort of what standup comedy is, anyway. [26 May 1995]

Dr. Katz is a cartoon cross between The Bob Newhart Show and Seinfeld.

Sometimes Dr. Katz is a little too early-period Woody Allen — more whines than jokes. But so far, Dr. Katz has proved capable of a brisk originality.

Taking the sitcom-shrink genre beyond "Frasier" and "The Bob Newhart Show," Comedy Central's "Dr. Katz" enters the hip, surreal realm of "The Simpsons." [27 May 1995]

The material is high in laugh content, but sometimes the handy wonders of animation tempt the makers of "Dr. Katz" to illustrate jokes unnecessarily. [28 May 1995]

It's a classic cable move: save money by recycling old material. But it works. The nightclub shtik improves with Snyder's squiggly computer animation and Katz's deadpan running commentary. [19 Jun 1995]

"Dr. Katz: Professional Therapist" is not always as clever or as comically savvy as it thinks itself. ... Yet at this point, there are more than a few scripted inventions to keep the viewer tuned in and returning for future sessions. [25 May 1995]
