  1. Hilarious, delightful and smart... "Eureka" may have the gumption to become the best sci-fi show since the late lamented "Farscape."
  2. 80
Eureka is neither as charming as Northern Exposure nor as sinister as Twin Peaks. Whatever it lacks in originality, Eureka still represents an oasis in this reality-infested summer.
  3. "Eureka" is the sort of show that makes you want to see more of almost every supporting player - and, of course, of the show itself.
  4. 75
    Quirky, fun, [and] smart (literally).
  5. 75
"Eureka" is clever paranormal escapism that sometimes teeters on the edge of whimsical excess. But that doesn't mean you won't find plenty of affable, oddball entertainment.
  6. Even though broader does mean more conventional, conventional these days is underrated.
  7. 70
    Surreal and then some.

There's warmth and wit there, along with not a little magic.
  9. It's an uneven show that lacks the finely crafted eccentricity of a "Northern Exposure" and "Twin Peaks" or "Picket Fences" (other strange-small-town shows featuring police officers), but when I say "uneven," I do mean that sometimes it's good.
  10. It's all very quirky. Too quirky, maybe, for an audience that is used to spaceships, robots and explosions.

A divertingly original but awfully precious comic fantasy.

The idea itself... is pretty damn good, even if the execution doesn't quite live up to it.

If you're a regular viewer of the network -- whose hits include "Stargate: SG-1" and "Battlestar Galactica" -- be glad there's plenty of sci-fi to be found on "Eureka." And if Sci Fi's not on your TiVo, be glad that the show is driven more by characters than special effects (and so-so special effects at that).
  14. It can be pleasant -- even charming at times -- but not much more than that.
  15. The frustrating thing about Eureka is it doesn't know how seriously to take itself. [11 Apr 2006, p.59]

The show borrows from Northern Exposure, Twin Peaks, maybe the corporate drama Profit--too many to gauge how it'll develop. [24 Jul 2006, p.33]
  17. I like [the characters] all enough to hope they can float this so-far-leaky dirigible.
  18. 50
It starts jumping in different directions so quickly that it loses focus.
  19. "Eureka" just doesn't rise to a "Northern Exposure" level of quality.
  20. 30
With its population of must-love oddballs, the series drowns its cool sci-fi concept in a flood of "Northern Exposure" quaintness.

Don't listen to the critcs. This show has become one of my favorite shows of all time. There is just something about it that keeps me drawn into it. And its a major plus that the main character is very likable and draws a contrast between the town and himself. Full Review »
  2. This is a great show. Does not deserve a cancellation. This is especially true since A) it receive high viewership and b) its viewership is double than Syfy's Alphas which is a really bad show, and it got a renewed season. The show even has a higher numbers than Warehouse 13 which is also a good show and it beat out Alphas. Whats wrong with this Picture Syfy. Quit cancelling good shows. You did this to StarGate franchise (where the last two SG Movies) and countless other shows. Full Review »

What really drives this show is the wonderful characters they have put in it. They each have strengths and weaknesses and they play off each other really well. There are tons of really witty comments from almost every character and it never gets old, especially Jack Carter, the Sheriff. He has so many awesome jokes or comments that it always keeps me laughing. Some people think the science is too far fetched or the plots are too thing but those people are missing the point entirely. It's about the fun adventures in each episode as well as the drama that can run through 1 episode or an entire season. I hope this show is around for a long time as it's the most refreshing thing i've seen on television in a long time. It's just a really really fun show. Full Review »
