This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As with the previous two seasons Eureka's largely procedural nature still causes a few issues. Characters are often introduced simply to be killed off or act as a protagonist in an episode and, aside from a surprisingly touching departure for Nathan Stark (although even that was pretty quickly forgotten about); there is never really any real sense danger for any of the main characters.

Fortunately however Eureka has always succeeded in one area where so many other shows of this nature, such as Terra Nova or Smallville, have failed. Put simply, it's actually fun to watch. With each season the writers have become increasingly willing to run with outlandish premises but a large part of the show's success can still be put down to Colin Ferguson's excellent lead performance as Sheriff Carter and, even in the odd episode when he is relegated to the sub-plot, he still steals the show. On top of that there are some surprisingly touching moments that help elevate this third season above the previous two.

It’s never going to be the most complex drama on TV and there are plenty of plot-holes if you want to find them but if you're looking for a bit of light hearted sci-fi fun Eureka comes highly recommended.

PS Clip show episodes are always rubbish, more so when you are only in your third season.
