Ah, the joy of Glee. I thought the show had lost its way last season, trying to jam songs into theme episodes ("Hello"). But tonight's season opener proves that "Glee" is back in its groundbreaking groove, bringing music to the masses and making fun of itself in the process.

In its second season, the high school musical comedy occasionally flies off the rails...But maybe that's to be expected from this aggressively inventive pop fantasy, where mundane details like homework never matter. [1 Nov 2010, p.41]
  4. So far--although Glee may be creeping closer to the edge--it remains nearly as delightful as it was when everything about the show seemed shiny and new.

Second-season expectations for Glee are almost too high. Potential reality series, movies, spinoffs, tours, record contracts...the surround sound that's jacked up around this hit is now officially deafening. Unrelenting distractions can push series off their game, and there's evidence tonight Glee is off its game.
  6. This is a packed episode that sets up the dynamic for a season long rivalry that New Directions will be hard-pressed to overcome.

It has become a powerful, promotional machine, long on hype and short on the human feeling--the glee--that once made it so addictive.

An amazing show, which has real mania surrounding it! They are amazing singers and a good story-line! This is an inspirational show and never fails too put you in a good, hyper mood! The season is much more appealing with Jonathan Groff joining the cast, nothing is more appealing than a bad-boy and he will defiantly keep the suspense in the Glee club, he has us itching for more! Well done Jonathan and all your Glee Co-Stars :) Expand

I love the first episode of Glee... It make me LOL the entire episode... Its was definitely better than most of the episodes of the 1 season.... The music was great except the last song.... The new guys in the cast sing great... I'm sure this gonna be the best season.... Expand

This show has lady gaga syndrome. The creators think they have a coat of pop sugary candy that they sneakily injected with dark undertones and social commentary. But ratings and dollars speak so what they end up with is sugary pop candy that just thinks it has dark undertones cuz at the end of the day the important thing is to be yourself and never stop believing...yippie! There is perhaps an overabundance of gimmicky guest-stars and themed episodes, contrived mini-dramas with half-life shorter than virtual particles and unnecessary songs per episode and too little actual dramatic content but "Glee" is still mostly the land of joy and the home of delightful characters like over the top villain with a heart of titanium Sue, unbelievably and endearingly stupid Brittany, infernally hot Santana, sad Beiste and tiny Kurt. The show has lost some of its luster in season 2. Coach Bieste is a good foil for Sue Sylvester and the boys of the group. But the music has become too saccharine, as of late. Maybe good songs will show up later, and the show will get its (foot)balls back. Expand

I still haven't figured out the appeal of this show. To me it is painfully superficial and quite frequently mean-spirited in its humor (which does not automatically make it sarcastic or witty) and each hour feels interminable. The show also seems to be straining to show everyone how cool it is. As for the music, it is generally good, but the song selections never wander very far from the mainstream. It ultimately feels like the worst aspects of high school rehashed for a weekly tv series. Nothing less, nothing more. Expand

This show has become possibly the worst show on TV. The show is obnoxious and not funny whatsoever. The singing has gotten boring, I loved the first season, but the second season was horrible. Expand
