Summary: Grandmaster Freak & the Furious 15 will center on a 17-year-old hip-hop pioneer, whose parents would rather he would hit the books and become a doctor or lawyer, and his absurdly large posse in Englewood, New Jersey. Ice Cube and Futurama co-creator David X. Cohen have teamed up on this new animated project at the FOX network, about an early 1980s hip-hop crew. FOX has given a pilot presentation order to the project, which Cohen is writing and executive produce alongside Ice Cube and his producing partner Matt Alvarez's Cube Vision Productions. Grandmaster Freak concerns the Englewood, N.J.-based adventures of an old-school rap crew with a comically large number of members, lead by "Grandmaster Freak" himself, a 17-year-old high school student. Ice Cube is expected to lend his voice to one of the characters, however it will not be the lead role as that would would mean a much bigger time commitment for the rapper. The producers hope to feature several old school rap songs from groups such as the Sugar Hill Gang as well as original compositions and have the opportunity to recruit musical guest stars new and old for the show. Although Music is the focus of the show it will only feature actual performances when they are relevant to the storyline. Rough Draft Studios, which animated Futurama, will be animating the show.
