  1. TV Land's first original sitcom is the surprise of the summer, a sparkling, breezy comedy, in no small part due to the casting of this year's It Girl, 88-year-old Betty White as a cantankerous caretaker.

Hot in Cleveland is bright, funny and witty. And, yes, it's a purely traditional sitcom, filmed in front of a studio audience, which clearly appreciates the jokes.

Comfort food to its core, the show is a retro casserole tapping into a popular appetite for leftovers.

Surely White must have the willpower to decline some offers--especially after the long and appreciative bask she's recently enjoyed--and she could have let this job pass. The same cannot be quite so true for Hot in Cleveland's headliners, sitcom veterans who all give off a strong and desperate whiff of trying way too hard to be even mildly funny.

    Wow just amazing show!
  2. Betty White, at 89, has lost a little of her comedic timing, but is still the gem of this sitcom and delivers the funniest lines each week. Wendy Malick is, well, Wendy, yet again, but works here. Valerie is, well, Valerie again, but works here. The surprise is Jane Leeves....a far cry from her Daphne fame on "Frasier". With all the character predictability, this sitcom still works...and works well. It seems the chemistry has a lot to do with that. Expand

Sitcoms like these deservedly died in the 80s, but after the decade of reality shows and cringecoms, I would categorise this show as comfort TV. If nothing else, Betty White gets the best snide lines and keeps the trio of Cleveland cougars under control. Expand

I was expecting the worse from the TV Land ads. I was right - this show is AWFUL!! Wow, Jane Leeves, Wendy Malick, I guess the writers from "Frasier" were nowhere to be found.. TV Land airs some great, classic shows. This is definitely not one of them. Expand
