Latino Americans is the kind of polished, intelligent documentary series that PBS does so well.
The notes of triumph become louder and more frequent as PBS’ ambitious six-hour series on America’s fastest-growing minority moves toward its conclusion.
The filmmakers do a very good job keeping all the separate plates spinning for six hours, although, to be honest, the show virtually cries out for a sequel focusing more thoroughly on modern times.
The documentary, narrated by Benjamin Bratt (son of a Peruvian mother), is rather dry in spite of the rich subject matter. It's particularly slow-going at the start (the pre-Alamo section is a slog), but it picks up steam as the chronology moves toward the modern age with notables contributing first-person accounts.
