An oddly enticing pastiche of rom-com, buddy-cop procedural, and renegade theology.

Lucifer is the most accessible [of the twoshows--the other being Syfy's "The Magicians"], mostly because it feels as if we've already seen it before. And we have, one way or another; "Lucifer" feels a bit as if Syfy's fallen-angel drama "Dominion" mated with ABC's "Castle."

A light dusting of Milton notwithstanding, its pitch is mainstream and middlebrow. A decently made series that is neither particularly original nor entirely predictable.

There’s nice but predictable chemistry between Ellis and German, and although Fox only made one episode available to critics, the show’s concept is so obvious, it’s easy to see exactly where this will go, unless it gets canceled first.

Lucifer certainly has a sense of atmosphere, and has some fun with little touches like the character’s personalized license plate (FALLIN1, naturally) or inherent dislike of children. Rachael Harris is also a hoot, briefly, as a psychologist who is decidedly not resistant to Lucifer’s influence. Still, it’s hard to think of anything more mundane than having the Devil walking among us, only to turn that into a crime procedural--a slightly sulfurous version of “Bones” or (gasp) “Rosewood.” Subsequent episodes merely calcify that perception.

Turning Lucifer into "The Mentalist" with slightly more CGI seems a waste of the character Gaiman and Carey made so vivid, but it still could have led to a decent show. This is just awful.

Granted, they have also departed quite a lot from the source material, but I don't give that too much attention, unless it's one of my favourite characters. Tom Ellis as the Devil Himself is quite brilliant, all his little daddy issue jokes are still fun for me. I believe they could've cast a better actress to play Chloe, not saying that she's bad, but just doesn't seem believable as a cop to me. It's an okay show, and if you're gonna watch it, do not keep the Lucifer from the comics in your head, otherwise you won't stay with what the show is trying so hard to pitch. Expand

Problem is in execution. For this to be believble, the actor playing lucifer must come of as actually evil. Right now his "evil face" more resembles a someone paying a horny guy playing the other team. Nothing wrong w playing the other team, but hardly the definition of evil. His only "superpower" so far seems to be asking ppl what their desires are, showing a demony face and being immortal. Seems a tad bit watered down for the prince of darkness. If the script improves (now generic Castle like plots), maybe by focusing more on the super natural (?) and the main actor improves his evil shtick - the show could get a lot better. As I said, the idea is great, but the whole thing could be botched if not executed properly. Expand

Lucifer helping the police catch bad people and sending them to hell where they belong. OK Lucifer falls in loves...will it be another Rosemary's Baby? No. This love angle played itself out with Cheers, Moonlighting, The Wonder Years and so many others. It is old and with this show has become boring. Move it along. Let Lucifer be the charming talented devil having sex with beautiful women and helping "Decker" solve crimes and sending murderers to hell. Last season was horrible. Last I heard about Kane he left the WWE and is running for Mayor in Tennessee. Get on with it. Less soap opera with love triangles and more action with great one liners. Expand
