    Happy Halloween. [28 Oct 2005, p.79]
  2. It's simply a great idea that, if early indications are accurate, could stand as a horror classic for a television genre that's been inconsistent at best over the years.

Any doubts the tube can get graphic enough for today's gore-heads disappear almost instantly with tonight's premiere installment.
  4. "Masters of Horror," like any anthology, can be judged only after many installments, but it's off to a tantalizingly creepy start.

Horror isn't my thing, but this is pretty good. [7 Nov 2005, p.41]
  6. True, it's not quite "Tales From the Crypt" but is better than "Tales From the Darkside."

And that's the problem. Is it horror or just horrible? Is it scary or just bloody?

[It] won't earn many points for subtlety, but for aficionados of the horror genre it's the kind of stylish gorefest that should keep them up nights.

If the first offering, "Incident On and Off a Mountain Road," is any indication, the hoped-for resurrection of in-your-face frights is still a couple of corpses away.

  1. Maybe the young are rating this set and dont know about good work like 'The Shining' 'Phantasm' and such. the masters of horror have obvioulsy gotten old fat and slow (Like Orson after Kane) they arent hungry and it shows. The plots meander go no where and somtimes are silly. I challenge them to let young directors make productions who are eager to prove themselves. Even with a lousy story you can make it shine as evident by the orignal cut of The SHining and Kings more literal crappy version in the 90's. This is bad and maybe the ones posting the good reviews work in marketing for Showtime. Full Review »

People who complain about this series are not true fans of the horror genre. Episodes like Imprint, Cigarette Burns and The Fair Haired-Child were a fine example in what horror films should be... TERRIFYING. If you are offended by images of nudity, gore, satanism or basically anything else included in the genre we refer to as "HORROR" than I suggest you go rent something like Scream 3 or Jeepers Creepers. *Also, I dont know how people can post negative comments on this series after only watching one episode. I would say that 6 out of the 13 episodes are extremely good, and the rest are just campy generic cheese.* Full Review »
