  1. Apart from the Oedipal twist, it seems to be pretty much your standard "Bachelor"-style hookup show, the women all bunged up together in a fancy dormitory.

Momma's Boys is truly and sometimes horrifically fascinating, a deluxe example of sumptuous trash that takes the concept of "guilty pleasure" to a new extreme.

All told, it's the most familiar of reality concepts with all the usual tricks--barely deviating from established programs, patterned after a movie ("Monster-in-Law," anyone?) and relying upon a pithy name to spare the marketing guys from working too hard selling it.

This putrid reality competition works a racist mom into the mix: So, in addition to a parade of mostly inarticulate, cheerfully stereotypical bimbos--the usual bunch of shrieking morons you encounter in this desperate-dating genre--there's plenty of moral ugliness as well.

The show, executive produced by self-labeled momma's boy Ryan Seacrest, is totally stupid, but you knew that already.
  6. Seacrest and his cohorts do everything they can to ratchet up the artificial tension and drama, following in the footsteps of so many primetime abominations that have preceded Momma's. Here's the good news: Come fall 2009, 10 o'clock shows like this will be obsolete on NBC, replaced by five nights a week of "A Man Named Jay" (or whatever they choose to call it).
  7. Executive produced by Ryan Seacrest, this sucking wound of a show introduces three guys and their moms who move into a house filled with women.
