Daniel Levy has a confident comedic voice and a knack for biting dialogue, which can only mature along with the series, especially as we get to know the town and the character more. There is room for improvement--luckily, there will be a second season to work on that.
The Levys nicely develop their fish-out-of-water concept by showing how the family tries to fit in out of necessity.

Schitt's Creek is the most hilarious show I have ever seen and my favorite new show of 2015, my favorite comedy show of all time, and my favorite show of all time. The writing is phenomenal, it is hilarious. The characters are so we'll written, they are outstanding. Catherine O'Hara, Dan Levy, Emily Hampshire, Eugene Levy, Chris Elliott, Annie Murphy, and Jennifer Robertson give remarkable performances, they are hilarious and have outstanding chemistry, they just play off of each other perfectly. The costumes are spectacular especially the ones wore by Catherine O'Hara, Dan Levy, Annie Murphy, Eugene Levy, and Jennifer Robertson. The makuep and hairstyling was stupendous especially on Catherine O'Hara, Chris Elliott, Jennifer Robertson, Tim Rozon, Emily Hampshire, Sarah Levy, Dan Levy, Annie Murphy, and Eugene Levy. The sets and scenery are fantastic, I love the small town/rural forest setting. The music is excellent, I love it. This is an A+ first season.

The show has a familiar fish-out-of-water conceit.... But it's always a pleasure to see Levy and O'Hara play off each other. [13 Feb 2014, p.66]
I can’t say that there are many funny jokes in Schitt’s Creek, but the show is never less than watchable, thanks in particular to Levy Sr. (playing, more or less, the show’s straight-man) and O’Hara (superb as a former soap-star villain and a real-life diva).
It’s a no-frills production with modest, but pleasant rewards.
The screws need some tightening but the basics are in place and the cast is more than capable.
Schitt’s Creek leaves everyone concerned looking adrift without much of a clue, much less a paddle.
This is a great show. There are times when Catherine O'Hara's acting is so transcendent that I am in awe. Not an overstatement. The parents are such pros. The kids are funny. The writing is really smart. For those who don't get subtle or indirect or abstract humor they may miss the joke, but for those who like a creative show with no hit you over the head jokes or pratfalls it will make you laugh.

This first season is predictable and awkward. It seems like a slower version of Arrested Development with a third of the jokes. I hope this show gets better from here because it has potential.

After finding himself suddenly bankrupt the formerly wealthy Johnny Rose, his soap-opera star wife Moira and two entitled adult children, are forced to move to the town they bought as a joke and take up residence in its rundown motel.
Schitt’s Creek isn't without its merits but for much of this first season the writing and characters are all too predictable to elicit little more than the odd chuckle. Fortunately these characters do show some signs of becoming more rounded and interesting towards the end of the season meaning that, even though there still aren’t a huge amount of truly laugh out loud moments, I hold out hope that this show can evolve into something worth sticking with…

The premise for the show has a bit of promise, but it is let down by below average writing and emotionless acting
The only shining light is Emily Hampshire who at least appears to have a heart and soul and a healthy sense of irony and sarcasm.
The show doesn't really need to have a euphemistic title. The real S**t word applies.

While the title screams "lousy show", I checked out two episodes because of the quality of the cast. I figured the people have to be able to put on a good show. Sorry, the title tells the whole story. The premise is ridiculous. The writing is atrocious. Some of the acting is pretty good, proving that good actors can rise above horrible material. This is city-people vs. rural-people which results in an insult to the intelligence of all people. I gave it a three ONLY because of the cast.
